About

Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen, located in Morristown, NJ's historic Vail Mansion, is the latest visionary project from veteran NY restaurateur Chris Cannon.

Story

This exciting four-part concept includes The Oyster & Wine Bar at Jockey Hollow (with a casual, contemporary menu); the Vail Bar, a glam 1920's-style cocktail lounge; The Rathskeller, a private event and after hours space; and The Dining Room at Jockey Hollow on the Mansion's second floor, with a regional, sustainable farm-to-table focus.

The cuisine is modern American- and Italian-inspired, featuring locally sourced ingredients from Cannon's partnership ventures with Mantoloking's Forty North Oyster Farms (the state's only oyster farm along the Atlantic Coast) and Mendham's Ralston Farm, a small-scale, diverse organic CSA.

This place is incredible! I love that I can get a proper drink in town now. I've also had the tasting menu upstairs. The food and service is impeccable. They are a little pricey but it's a good special occasion restaurant. My only gripe is that I feel like the hosts can be a little snobby at times especially when they're busy. Understandable, but there are nice approaches to turn someone away.

We went there yesterday. Ordered Beer and a cocktail called bad and boujee which were great. Atmosphere and drinks are excellent Except for food. "Colossal" shrimp weren't really colossal at all. One of them was even over cooked and it's $5 a piece. If it's $5 a piece you expect a really really good shrimp and this was not the case. Steak tartar was good and octopus salad was okay too. I eat my meat well done that's just the way it is. I'm old school European person and when I say it was an over kill I really mean it. It's always a pain for the chef when Someone orders their meat well done. It does require you to cook on a really low heat and longer ( so it's still nice and juicy) well.... this was a hockey puck 🏒 they just left it in the grill forever to get mummified... how can you serve it like that? It's a nice place but the kitchen needs work. Bartender was very attentive and thumbs up to him. Can't remember his name but was very accommodating. This is a 3 star place for food, defiantly not more than that.

I've had dinner in the restaurant's dinning room, which was excellent. I was much less impressed with the Oyster Bar. The food was good, but the service didn't hold up to my previous experience. Our selections from the menu weren't available, even though it was still early in the evening. We ordered a bottle of wine to go with dinner. It didn't arrive until we were done with our meal. Not a great night, and when your paying top dollar for the meal, it matters.

What happened to this place. My wife and I have been here a number of times and the dining experience seems to get worse each time we go. Let me start by saying the building and décor are beautiful and the reason they are receiving 2 starts. It is still a great spot for a drink and I still recommend Jockey Hollow for that. As for the food and service, it is sadly disappointing. This used to be one of the best finer dining experiences in the area and has regressed to repeated poor service and food that on our last visit was not edible. I am not a food snob and typically do not care about service but what was once such a pleasurable dining experience is completely off the rails. We will not go back and I find it hard to believe that most people would be anything but completely disappointed with their food these days. I hope they turn it around because this place used to be something special.

It is obvious that a tremendous amount of creativity and thought went into the preparation of the dishes on the menu. Many restaurants can put out a top quality product consistently but many also seem to lack the creativity and mixture of ingredients that you can find in some of the dishes here
