I just left this restaurant and already feel that I need to leave a review. Let me start by saying that Alex, who was working the grill and counter was amazing and very nice. I appreciate how fresh and well made everything is-the moment we ordered he started up the grill and the food was hot and the burgers were juicy. The presentation is very nice and there are a variety of sauces that are served with the fries. This place is the best burger joint on Franklin and with a little more marketing can become the next hit!!
Although we ran into some problems with a groupon, the overall experience here was great. The workers seemed to really care about our thoughts on the food, and wanted to make our time here the best it could be. The food came out fresh, hot and very quickly. The burgers were delicious, and I even got a specialty hot dog that was delicious. Highly recommend this spot, need to get the word out though.
My wife and I stopped by here for lunch before the UNC football game because it had good reviews. We really do not understand how it got 4.3 stars, we had a disappointing experience. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly, but that's about all that was good. We waited 20 minutes for 2 burgers and 2 orders of fries, which would be understandable if it was busy, but there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. The burgers were dry and flavorless. The regular fries were mediocre. The "cheddar fries" were disgusting and misleading. I expected fries with melted cheddar cheese and instead got fries with bright orange cheese dust sprinkled on them. Will not be going back.
Point of order, old reviews are out of date, as this place has recently reopened with new management. Incredible burgers. Lots of juice coming out of them, great dipping sauces ask for the Sriracha mayo. Best part is they have a nice selection of distinct burgers, each different enough to actually feel justified. Personal favorite is the Korean burger.
Joe's Joint is a hidden gem. Customers must walk through an alley way to reach the top of a parking deck where it is inconspicuously located. The owner makes everything from scratch in a little kitchen right behind the register. His crinkle-cut fries are some of the best I've ever had – perfectly crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The onion rings and veggie burger are amazing as well. The owner was so friendly and genuine. He even gave us a new dish he created that he is considering adding to the menu.
Glad this little burger place is back. Had a Groupon so we got an even better deal. Quick, really tasty burger and dogs. I had the Home South Burger which was amazing!! Applewood bacon, cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, onion strings, BBQ sauce. Looking forward to going back.
This placed is great. Stumbled across it coming out of a parking deck off of E. Rosemary St a couple of weeks ago. Best burger I ever had and the sweet potato fries are awesome. Family is going to eat there again tonight.
They make the best burger in Chapel Hill. I would bet them against even an upscale gourmet burger. Its at the end of an alley and open in the evening. I had to find it but its worth. Its one of those special place that just stick to your crave. Chef Effrem kills it ...the Asian looking guy is sweet. A MUST TRY POOPLE WHO LOVE A GOOD BURGER.
If you're reading the reviews from 2 years ago then you should know that they recently reopened. I can't say what it was like then, but from what I tasted earlier this evening honestly could eventually rival Al's. Supdogs and Buns better watch out, this newly opened joint is one of the best burgers on Franklin.
Great hole in the wall spot, I've come back off and on since I went to school here in '06, but it's currently going through some turnover and you might want to give it a pass at the moment. Was meeting friends last Friday at 2pm, signs indicated the place was closed opens at 11am, the guy who was opening up said he was "Sorry I got here just a few minutes late, give me 15 minutes and we'll be open", well don't BS a BS'er, I went to Bandido's and as we were leaving we thought to check again, he still hadn't opened by 3.15. Lost my business that day and possibly in the future, hope the owner checks this!
