I have lived in this neighborhood for 20 years, and have walked by this place day almost daily walking from Jewel. Tonight I made a point to stop in with my friends after Christkindlmarket, and we were all glad we did!! Met some awesome regulars, and the bartenders, we just loved the atmosphere!! I highly recommend Joe's on Broadway!!
I've been here twice and can't wait to come back! Everyone from the staff to the customers are super friendly and talkative. Sandy is super sweet and I enjoyed chatting with her. Bonus points for the cool decor
I don’t really understand what just happened but I think I was just cut off because I wasn’t from the neighborhood. Sandy was very sweet and attentive and engaging as a bartender but shortly after conversation with a patron that just entered the bar, I was told I had enough after a jack and coke, one beer and two shots with locals that spanned over a 3 hour endeavor. The others at the bar seemed equally as shocked as she told me the price of my tab. Quite offended, I used the restroom and thanked everyone for their cordial and fun relations. I really enjoyed Joes. But I felt as if my jovial and spirited nature wasn’t well received by her despite other patrons conversations. Perhaps because of my lack of locality, I didn’t fit in by her standards. I’ve never had this happen to me and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone I know. The absurdity of her judgment left me befuddled and offended. I’d like to note that this review was made moments after i left the bar. It still makes me wonder if my cut off was due to my opinions and not my intake of alcohol and the supposed belligerence that would follow. Anyway, Jacqueline’s is down the street and they have the sort of inclusiveness that one would hope for a bar. Sorry Joe.
Jack has to be my favorite bartender in the whole city, you definitely have to ask him about the bar being haunted. Doesn't hurt that you can't beat the vibe or the booze prices when you're just looking to relax after work or catch the game.
An escape from the hustle and bustle of vivacious boystown and sports filled Clark street, Joe's on Broadway has been the neighborhood watering hole for nearly 5 decades. While boasting classic beers, simple mixed drinks, and bags of chips, this no frills local spot is a neighborhood best kept secret. The jukebox is always kept at a reasonable level and conversation takes the forefront as the stiff pours help ease even the worst nerves. The bartenders always have interesting stories and work both as the person who serves you a drink and the reason you stick around for another. As the neighborhood has changed over the last 50 years, Joe's on Broadway stands still as a nostalgic, classic place to have a cold drink, meet someone new, and play a round of darts.
Love coming to this neighborhood dive bar! The customers are always so nice and the bartenders are great! I’m new to the area and my bf and I have made a few friends here! They have snacks, good drinks, dog treats, and TouchTunes! You can also buy cigarettes here
A nice bar with an AWESOME bartender. A lovely man who is fun to chat with. Granted he poured me more ice than water, but he made the visit awesome. A typical bar with drink selection, better than normal beer selection. Not good for large parties but nice chatting for 2-3.
My favorite local bar. I call it my dive bar although the bartenders may not appreciate my doing so. I say it with love and affection. Wide selection of most everything. Don't expect hoity- toity. Expect colorful patrons, camaraderie, and Sandy excellent barkeep. Look at the photos on the walls, watch the game, play Jeopardy with the telly, or bring your laptop and work. This is the place for all.
Came for a bar hopping night out with friends. Unfortunately, we spent so much time parking that we missed last call. However, the bartender did recommend another bar to us down the street thats open later. The only thing I didn't like was that the bartender kept pouring himself drinks and the regulars drinks while telling us that he couldn't serve us.
Standard dive bar. Older crowd in the afternoon and younger folks late into the evening. There is always the right amount of people to feel like things are alright. Now you can walk over to La Biznaga #2 next door and enjoy tacos while at Joe's *mind blown
