Story

The Law Offices of John L. Burris was formed in 1985. While the practice initially focused on criminal defense, it quickly shifted to an emphasis on civil rights litigation, particularly in the context of police misconduct, and racial and sexual discrimination in employment. Located in Oakland, we serve the Bay Area, the San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento and Northern California.

Over the years, John Burris and his associated counsel have represented a number of public officials and high profile clients: Earl Sanders, the former Chief of Police of San Francisco; Rodney King; recording artist Tupac Shakur; actor Del Roy Lindo; NFL player Keyshawn Johnson; NBA players Gary Payton and Jason Kidd; and Aaron Goodwin, former sports agent for NBA phenomenon LeBron James.

Our firm has been instrumental in social reforms of police policy governing the use of canines, deadly force, hog tying, pepper spray, and other practices. Our work has also changed police department protocols for crowd control tactics and handling of the mentally impaired.

The firm has been successful in a number of class actions, including the infamous “Riders” case

I would never ever apply here again. Awful at follow ups. I came across their website and I saw that they were offering job opportunities. I called the number and they provided me with their email. And I sent over my resume and cover letter back in March and it took like 4 months for them to follow up. I'm here thinking like dang they should've been giving me an update by now. Then I reached out to them after 4 months and they kept asking me for my number and email after I have already provided those 2 things . This is labeled as  one of the worst law firms I have ever came across. Applicants, if you're passionate about law DO NOT choose this one. Their customer service is horrible and they really suck on  follow ups. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Not about helping the community or a wronged individual. No publicity, no help. Not enough money involved. Sorry We can’t help You. It seems after all the money this law firm has made sueing cities guilty of wrongdoing it would be willing to maybe help citizens of some of those cities. Morally not a good law firm.

John Burris couldn't care less about equal rights! Show me one picture, one article, of a white man he defended! 0! I have had every single civil right violated sooo many times! He's not about changing the system anymore. He's lost his competitive advantage...100% talk 0 walk! He couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag! I'm suing his law firm for discrimination! I look white...but I'm more than 10% black! Skin color doesn't matter to me! Why does it matter to him!?

Karl Marx once said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
This guy started off small and wanting to do the right thing, but as he got in the spot light he became famous and forgotten about the people.
I sent him a good case and he blew me off because he doesn't represent the people, he represents the bad that oppresses the people.
America, do not do business with his law firm.  He's gotten rich and fat off of other peoples  misfortune, sad. He talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.... This firm doesn't deserve a star, but I have to click the star button in order to post my concerns, so that you the people can see through this guys evil.

I was looking for an Attorney to help me with Police Brutality?
I too remember calling them, to take my case. But when I arrived, they had NO record of my appointment. But also decided Not to take my case.
You See Burris on TV spewing greatest of knowledge. I suggest that they find a nice new shiny attorney who wants to be on TV. Burris is just guessing. He also was using the name of Johnnie Cochran Law Firm at that time to get business. They were unaware of him doing this. That they had severed their relationship with him.
