Saw Dr. Michael's for 3 years... thought I was being treated for what I needed to be treated for- Bi-Polar... I went to the psychiatric hospital in Valdosta called Greenleaf and when I talked to the psychiatrist there I found out I was being given schizophrenia medication the entire time... he even pulled up the description of the medication on his phone to show me it doesn't even have a secondary affect as a mood stabilizer... You can ask any of my friends and family and they'll all tell you the same thing: I'm not schizophrenic.. I have a friend I've known for around 20 years who is schizophrenic and knows the signs and he was VERY surprised when I told him I had been given schizophrenia medication this entire time.... 3 years and I'm being treated for the wrong thing!! I thought it was working because my sporadic mood swings had settled down from multiple times a week to once or twice monthly, but I had also been given by my family doctor sleep medication which turns out can be used as a mood stabilizer. Not seeing Dr. Michaels anymore due to what I see as malpractice. I would have just put it down to misdiagnosis... But even Dr. Michaels said it sounded to him that I was extremely bipolar when I first saw him (I made sure to bring someone with me to the first visit because even though I could explain the feelings I had the person I brought could describe my behavior better than I could as seeing it from a different perspective than I would have because even though I knew there was something that wasn't right I've never been able to figure out for myself I'd my anger was reasonable for the situation or not...though I had an inkling that the amount of anger at least sometimes didn't fit the bill... it helped him diagnose me as bipolar when he found out once I got over the anger spats I would instantly get depressed... add in the usual happy go lucky attitude I usually have and how I'll get EXTREMELY happy over something that really wasn't a big deal and voila: proof positive. But the right diagnosis is why it's not 1 star... because as said earlier though he diagnosed me correctly the treatment he was giving me was not only unnecessary but completely the opposite of helpful as I could have been treated for the right thing the entire time instead of for the wrong thing.
