Founded in 1895, as the Sterling Hose Company, organized to offer fire protection services to the Village of Johnson, Vermont. In 1935, the mission of the department changed as well as the name to include fire protection of the surrounding Town of Johnson. In 2004,the fire house suffered a devastating fire on a very cold February morning, where a majority of the equipment and apparatus were destroyed. Today, The Members of the Johnson Fire Department operate out of a state of the art facility, protecting approximately 96 square miles that include the communities of Johnson, Waterville and Belvidere, Vermont.
