The Jones County Sheriff's Office is located at 419 Yates Avenue in Laurel, Mississippi and today operates under the leadership of Alex Hodge, Sheriff. The Sheriff serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Jones County which spans 701 square miles with over 1,000 miles of rural roadways and a population of 68,641 people. The Sheriff is responsible for law enforcement response in Jones County and also operates the Jones County Adult Detention Facility and Jones County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The Jones County Sheriff's Office employs sworn law enforcement deputies serving on five squads, corrections officers, civilian administrative staff and includes a squad of reserve deputies. The department began in 1871 under the leadership of Sheriff Samuel Trest who was also the county's first Tax Collector. The Sheriff's Office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide professional, courteous and efficient law enforcement services to the citizens of and visitors to Jones County, Mississippi. Our motto is "The Jones County Sheriff's Office – Where Teamwork Makes The Difference" and that team approach to providing law enforcement services is vital to the great success we have and continue to achieve.
