I used to live in Germany and the food and general atmosphere reminded me of a few places back there. It's not quite like my grandma used to make but the schnitzel and potato salad were pretty damn close. I only wish they had more deserts by the slice. I may have to hit them up next time I need a cake though. The black forest cake looks really good.

Josie's is easily accessible off Trindle Rd. The signage is clearly visible. The grounds and building are refreshingly simple and natural. The parking area behind and to the front right of the building could be neater and better marked. The inside is very charming with a small store of packaged German foods by the register and cafe tables in the main dining room around a fireplace, bakery cases and cheery blue tile floor. There is also a more intimate dining room with window light. My coffee came in a pretty china cup. The menu had about a dozen lunch items and about the same amount of heartier dinner items - it was just the right amount and variety of authentic German options. The server suggested the Jaegerschnitzel. It was wonderful and the portion was just right. For dessert, I had some apple strudel she had just baked that day with homemade whipped cream. I will definitely return.

There are plenty of reviews that boast about the quality of the food and the overall atmosphere of the cafe. Both were satisfactory, but nothing to write home about. The dining area could definitely use a good scrub and a new coat of quality paint. Both the meat counter and desert counter left something to be desired. The food was good, not great. I was stationed in Germany for several years and the food at Josie's was comparable, but not the same quality. I had the Hungarian Goulash. It had a nice kick, but the meat portion was small. Our waitress said that they ran out of fresh spatzle and needed to use the bagged. That was fine, but it definitely needed to cook longer. Perhaps that dish would best be served in a bowl because the gravy from the goulash made it harder to eat with just a fork chasing it around the plate. Both kids had the schnitzel, which they enjoyed. Neither was a fan of the German potato salad, but I wouldn't put much stock in that because they can be rather picky. My spouse loved it! He had the rouladen. He liked it, but would not order it in the future. I took an apple strudel to go and was disappointed. It looked delicious, but was bland.

Great, authentic German food! And a nice selection of German groceries. We will be back!

This place is great. About as close to authentic as I've had. Reasonably priced.
