Bought the pork tonkatsu bento box today and was utterly underwhelmed. It was expensive costing nearly $22 for a Cali roll made with Mayo, small piece of fried pork, limp salad I saw them take straight out of the grocery store mixed salad plastic container, small scoop of rice and 2 pieces of gyoza. The salad dressing was just soy sauce. Portion was very small for the price. The Cali roll was strange being made with Mayo. For this price I expected a few pieces of real sushi but that was an upcharge. Would not come back again.
I tried the Ju Roll, their most expensive roll priced at $25, and the Spicy Salmon Roll, which cost $7.25. Unfortunately, the Ju Roll left me underwhelmed - it was just okay, not good or great, and certainly not worth the hefty price tag. I can't say I would recommend it. On the other hand, the Spicy Salmon Roll had a larger diameter compared to rolls from other places, but it was poorly packed and mostly filled with rice, lacking in fish. The sauce inside wasn't spicy and lacked flavor as well. Overall, I was disappointed with both rolls and wouldn't likely return.
Best sushi place in the area and the best prices, always. Don't have much to say other than that they're delicious and I highly recommend going here. However -- if you have a big order ALWAYS check to make sure everything is there. In a large order I end up having something missing or wrong every single time. Even though this has sucked, their food is such high quality it never dissuades me or my friends from coming here. Vegetarian options: There are several vegetable maki options here and they're excellent.
We just had the pork tonkatsu Bento box with the California roll, salad, pork gyoza and rice. The portions were very large so big we are taking home leftovers The salad dressing was delicious combination of soy sauce, lemon and spicy Japanese peppers. The pork cutlet was perfectly cooked: so crispy and the sauce was wonderful. The California roll was fresh and you got 8 pieces. This was a great bargain for the price. Very delicious and filling and wonderful variety! We also got a spider roll fabulous and the seared salmon and cucumber/avocado roll. Everything was fantastic! Such a fantastic little sushi place. I thank Google maps for finding this place for me. Not far off the highway. The fish is so, so fresh. Just excellent sushi and great people running it.
Nice quick stop after visiting the aquarium in the area. We shared a party platter and grabbed some soups for the table. Hosts were really accomodating and nice. Food was good. Value was good. Deceptive place from the outside. Looks like a walk up window stand. Plenty of sit down area in the interior.
Best priced and best tasting sushi I've had to date. The selection is extensive and unique, and you're free to create your own. Staff is personable, comical, and knowledgeable about sushi. Leave your mark and write on the wall!
$22 for a spicy tuna and an eel avocado roll!? Jesus Christ screw this place. Go to Mahzu instead. Bigger sizes and less expensive
Edit: I have returned to try the nigiri. And I can now confirm that this is the best sushi spot in Groton and New London. Don't go to Sushi Kawa, don't go to Kyoto Steakhouse. This is it. Eating the nigiri allows one to truly taste the fish as it is not covered by sauces like spicy mayo or doused in soy sauce. The fish freshness here is better than all the sushi places around here; no competition. Good sushi. The rice was soft and at a good temperature. The quality of fish in the rolls was not bad. They have both traditional simple rolls and more americanized ones. I have eaten at many sushi restaurants/omakases in NY and Philly. And I can say that this place is not bad at all. It is definitely the best sushi you can get in Groton. I wouldn't go anywhere else for sushi around the area than here. Will be returning to try the nigiri.
Absolute best SUSHI in Groton, CT!! Consistently delicious! Highly recommend. Modest shop but packs a punch in the flavor department.Food: 5/5
