Kelowna General Hospital is a large medical facility located in Kelowna, British Columbia operated by Interior Health and offers medical care in the Central Okanagan. In British Columbia, Kelowna General is the only hospital outside the Lower Mainland or Vancouver Island that performs angioplasty or cardiac surgery. It is one of the largest hospitals in Western Canada with more than 700 beds.HistoryKelowna General Hospital originally opened on August 2, 1908 with 19 beds on the land that was donated by Kelowna Land & Orchard Company. This building remained until 1940 when a new hospital building was constructed. The 72-year-old Pandosy Building was demolished in Summer 2012 to make way for a cardiac clinic. In 1969, the five storey Strathcona building was constructed, followed by the five storey Royal Building in 1992. Construction of the new six storey Centennial Tower began in 2008, part of an $800 million capital investment in health care for the Central and North Okanagan since 2007. It was completed on May 27, 2012.2007 Hospital ExpansionPlans to expand Kelowna General Hospital were approved in 2007 to support growing population in the region. Random act of kindness: My daughter volunteers in KGH every Friday. She was in line up to buy an apple for her snack when a nurse bought the apple for her instead and said, " Thank you for volunteering". What an awesome nurse❤️. This nurse just taught my daughter a very important lesson in life. Hope my daughter will never forget this kindness and will do the same to others.

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and efficiency we experienced in the ER today. The registration clerk and physician were extremely engaged. The triage system is excellent. We presented with a minor case and were treated accordingly. (I apologized for going to the ER but there were no open Medicentres...something to consider in Kelowna to minimize unnecessary visits.) My only 2 recommendations are: 1)to ensure medical equipment, used during triage assessment, is cleaned in between each and every patient and, 2) to perform proper hand hygiene in order to prevent potential spread of infection. Thank you.

My dad had been in a coma for about a month and had a brain bleed, and woke up in Kelowna, then came back to cranbrook general hospital, and was in cranbrook for about 6-1/2 months, he was sent back to kelowna for brain rehabilitation, mind you he was still a fall risk and even had a bright wrist band that said "fall risk" he was found in a pool of blood in Kelowna...after was left alone, we have come to cranbrook to see him today and he was un recognizable, his hair and beard were shaved off, and he had a giant lump on his cheek, and eyes to back of his neck was black and blue, he wanted to be DNR, but Kelowna shoved more tubes in him, now he's asking me to help him up, which I can no longer do since he went to Kelowna, needless to say I am furious with the negligence of Kelowna. Oh and my mother called and spoke to a male nurse, that after being informed about all this, claimed he "felt like a punching bag" really? How do you think we feel...

Terrible Service, Rude Ignorant Staff It was early Sunday morning when I took my husband to hospital for breathing difficulties. Admission to hospital was fairly quick but that is where it stops. We were directed to the streaming room at KGH. It was not at all busy. We waited in the section A to be called. We were then told to go to the assessment room. More than one hour had passed and still no doctor. We waited more. No one from the nurses station came in the room and checked on us. We were totally ignored as if we were not even there. Utterly disgusting. I could see about five to six people at the nurses station making small talk amongst themselves while they were snacking on junk food and taking selfie pictures of themselves. At one point the hospital staff from the nurses station disappeared and the whole floor was cleared of the patients before us. We were left all alone on the floor. It was obvious that everyone else was tended to but we were still left sitting and waiting for the doctor. We finally asked when we would see the doctor and the nurse simply just told us that the doctor was busy. That simple answer did it for us because there were no more patients left on the floor but us. We said we were leaving and one of the female staff said, okay. We walked out. It was obvious that no one gave a damn. They were a very cold, aloof and uncaring staff lacking professionalism. This is what taxpayers are paying for? This is just utterly sickening.
