A family member was assaulted by an attorney. We filed a complaint against the attorney with the Office of Judicial Administration, and we sent pictures and a police report. Not even three weeks later, we received a letter stating that the "complaint against the attorney will not be "entertained" by this office." You have got to be kidding me. You tell me an attorney can assault someone, currently be under investigation by police, and is currently being sued for their actions, and the Disciplinary Commission doesn't feel that the actions of the attorney was misconduct??? This office is just pitiful and it's a waste of time to even speak out and file complaints against attorneys! Amazing how they don't take assault claims seriously. What a disappointment. We have lost all faith and trust in the Kentucky State Bar Association!

My case is old but it's like getting caught in a nuclear blast in which initially you suffer radiation sickness for several months, and then 25 years later, finally suffer the late effects of radiation induced leukemia. 27 years later, I am now really having to deal with the aftermath of what my KY lawyers did to me. Paid a KY attorney $15,000 retainer in 1991 to handle my divorce, and he walked into the initial hearing cold to "rebut" my physician ex's incredible motion for alimony. No preparation. He said I had to pay her temporary alimony. Economic coercion caused the whole divorce to needlessly escalate and drag out. I got a 2nd opinion. This second attorney covered for him. I expended $90,000 in fees, $30,000 of this billed as ghost hours by this second lawyer for "review of file and preparation for trial." My ex walked off with nearly the entire marital estate with no provisions for hundreds of thousands in taxes on marital property which I had to sell to raise cash to pay for the settlement and excess judgment in my medical malpractice case. Nor any provision for the subsequent KY Medical Board suspension of my license, a death sentence for a young doctor starting his career. I was sued while doing my ex-wife's job (specialty) while she sat home and collected statutorily ( KRS 403.200, 403.160) prohibited maintenance (alimony) while living a standard that exceeded our marital standard. All debts, the mortgage, car payments, investments, health insurance etc. -all had already been paid for plus I had to pay full 100% child support and $4,500/month alimony. Undisputed she could return to work immediately and earn $200,000-300,000 a year. My lawyer even stated on record "She's certainly entitled to some reasonable support." My ex's $54,000 pre-marital medical school loans had already been paid off by me. I had no premarital debt. After subsequent damage control of this rushed settlement, I sued for legal malpractice. The special judge quickly opined that these attorneys were negligent (as did my experts) but then on their motion changed his wording to "assumes for purposes of discussion they were negligent" and essentially stated that my losses were automatically "speculative" and my case was dismissed on summary judgement in flagrant violation of the directives of KY Supreme Court precedent Steelvest vs Scansteel. "The dispositive feature is the plaintiff (me) settled his case." Like rats, these lawyers scurried to have the case sealed from the public. This went beyond incompetence. It was intentional selling out of a client, lying, and theft. Of course, I lost custody even though no claims against me as unfit father, etc, that I had located to KY from my home state, gone to my ex's residency, made every concession in good faith during the marriage, wasn't running around (like my ex.) and wound up having to pay $2,800 child support. It was total annihilation. By getting me to settle at the last minute (when I had even arranged for my parents to fly down to hear the evidence against my ex at trial), my attorneys were off the hook. They even asked my parents if they would guarantee my settlement payout! My ex's attorney knew my attorneys were not prepared for trial and so was able to extract this outrageous settlement. The lawyers lie all day long and KY Bar will do nothing. Only a one sentence letter from the 3 member tribunal, whose names remained anonymous. A grievance to the KY Judicial Retirement and Removal committee was ignored. Two parties, same age, same income, both children healthy with no special needs, and I pay for everything, my ex pays for nothing. The quintessential text book case of applicability of the statutes and yet an unconscionable result as a result of my four attorneys. 27 years later, I am still facing the consequences, not employable and these lawyers are still practicing and my ex still enjoys a cushy job with tenure at the medical school after enjoying a 4 year "sabbatical." The legal profession is rotten to the core and KY Bar condones this.

Kentucky attorneys do whatever they please, no matter how illegal, and the Bar Association does nothing. I am the legal heir to a trust. The trust counsel, after months and months of trying, will not respond to me and filing a bar complaint did no good. I have no choice, but to file a lawsuit over this nonsense, just to get a response. How ridiculous.
