Fantastic experience with Kook & Son! Howard Kook visited my place personally to assess a broken water heater and within half an hour his crew showed up with a replacement and installed it. Anthony and Akash were a crack team, expertly re-piping the system to accommodate the new water heater, circulator, and mixing valve.
Equally important to me though, as a single mom with a 7th grade son, having total strangers inside my apartment often makes me a little nervous- especially total male strangers. The two plumbers Mr. Kook sent, Akash and Anthony, were both dreams! I instantly felt that I was in good hands and, moreover, I felt safe.
This may mean nothing to some reading this review, but I've had other encounters with men technicians who would make offhand remarks, let a hand stray, etc... all of which I would deflect. As some readers may relate to, this is not fun.
Having Anthony and Akash on the job, however, was fun. Anthony was easy-going, relaxed, personable, put me at ease, and was very funny. Akash was a perfect sidekick, the classic steady mellow dude. What a terrific team!

I am very disappointed in this company. Obviously I am not the only one since they only received 2.8 stars out of 5. Barely over 50%. I had two appointments with them and they cancelled both times. The appointments were 5 days apart. They certainly had time to fit me in.  The excuses were that " there is a heatwave" and therefore a lot of people want their AC fixed (DUH, why do they think I was calling?) and secondly they said it was the hours I keep at my office and these hours were not convenient for them. So basically it was my fault.  I told the fool I was speaking with to forget it and called someone else. Within 50 minutes a very reliable and intelligent man from Ideal Climate HVAC was at my office fixing the problem. I now have a new AC man who I will refer all my patients to.  Very poor business Kook and Son.

I have worked with Kook and Sons for  about 5 years now. They are a cut above the rest. Howard and his crew did a superb job of diagnosing the cause of a leak  in my second floor bathroom. Other plumbers  were never able to diagnose the problem which was identified  correctly by Howard as being caused by a faulty floor pan, which was installed by another plumber 10 years earlier,  to fix the problem  necessitated a complete shower renovation with a new floor pan.

The  guys came did the demo work neatly and even saved some of the old tiles to repair another area in the Bathroom. My new shower looks fantastic and no more leaks, for the first time in years!

Howard is a true gentleman who knows his craft, his people are excellent, his pricing is reasonable, and the workmanship  is great.  

I have  since called on Kook and Sons for many more projects from sink repairs, to heating malfunctions. Kook and Son's should be your first call every time.

 I have been living in Jersey City for 24 years and I have used many other plumbers before Kook and Son, to say Howard's company is one of the best plumbing contractors in Jersey City is exemplified  by the fact that they have been in business for decades, they are professional, and prompt, and once they have fixed a problem it stays fixed.  

Plumbing may not be glamorous but when you  have no heat, or leaking pipes you come to appreciate the value that Kook and Son's brings.

I have used this company several times over the years.  I agree with the other reviewer about their services being pricey, but they respond quickly and do their work correctly, using good materials.  Once, I had to call them to re-do a job my neighborhood handyman (read: inexpensive) did poorly.  You pay for you get.

I called Kook and Son for a problem with my furnace.  A technician came out the following day and spent half an hour looking at the unit and testing different scenarios to see what the problem was.  He was unable to determine what was going on exactly and suggested I try replacing the thermostat at a cost of $325.  I thought that was excessive and decided I would replace it myself.  I was then told that I would have to pay $135 for an hour of his time diagnosing the problem (the hour included the half hour it took him to drive the 3 miles between the shop and my house).  I have dealt with several plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. in the past and have never had to pay for their time putting together an estimate.  Be sure to ask up front if there will be a charge for them to provide an estimate.
