My son went here for a totally of 8 months, two of his infant teachers were awesome they too had children with special needs so they were all for working with our son which made the home daycare setting to public daycare transition good. However months into going there we noticed a hand full of diaper rashes, and dirty clothes mainly from lunch. My son needed assistance with self feeding due to his condition and there were times he was just caked with food left in his lap and left like that till pick up time. I always made sure I had clothes on hand for them for this purpose. I think what frustrated me the most was no ownership with the teachers they were baffled it was missed or said they didn't notice during lunch time. which doesn't make sense still if they are checking kids after they eat and changing them before or after nap. When my son was ready to transition to the next class the director personally told me he was "not ready" and listed these requirements she knew he could not do yet due to his condition, and recommended that I should look for another school. I felt discriminated because of his needs and the extra help he needed which Ms Deepa- The Daycare Director was fully aware of before my son started going there. Switching daycares for a child or parent is never easy, and it sadden me I was being asked to look for a "special school" for my son. Once I started addressing concerns with her it became uncomfortable. I felt she didn't conversate with me as much anymore or avoided me all together. Even thought I never treated ANYONE there differently even with my concerns. She told me when "parents start voicing concerns the teachers feel like there being picked on" which was never my intention ever. I felt as a director she should be aware of my concerns and issues as I come across them and use them as a training opportunity with her staff, so that it's corrected and doesn't happen again. Had I been able to get issues fixed with teachers I wouldn't have had to go to her. Even thought as a director and business owner she would be aware of parents issues or concerns as they come up. As a paying customer I didn't feel like I had an open door policy with her the more I voiced the more uncomfortable it became. I ultimately had to reach out to the regional center who coordinated my sons care for help, They came in and reminded them of the American Disability Act. And once they stepped it and provided training to staff it got a little better. But by then I was so uncomfortable and had started looking for a new daycare to move him. You want to feel a sense of welcome when you drop your kids off you as a parent want open communication with the directors and staff. And I didn't feel that at La Habra Heritage. I felt like I was looked at as the "parent who complained". As a special needs mom I feel my son should have the same opportunity as any other healthy child vs being told I should look for a "special school for him". And that proved to me this was NOT the place for my son. I guess it was a blessing in disguise the director was blunt and said what she said to me because it made me realize this was not the daycare for him and it gave me that extra push I needed to pull him and find another daycare center. If your a parent who speaks up for your child this is NOT the daycare for you. I didn't feel she was a director who was open to objective criticism which in a business like this you need to be. We as the parents are our child's only advocate (especially for special needs kiddos) if we don't speak up for them who will.
