I just moved to the suburbs from the city and I had a feeling that it was going to be difficult to come across good Mexican food. There are so many amazing restaurants in Chicago so it’s going to be hard to top. I am going to one restaurant a week and rating them. This is number 2. Let’s start with the atmosphere. It has nice artwork but it’s way too dim for me. The server was nice and attentive so that is primarily where my high score comes from otherwise I would give them a 1. The taco only had a small amount of meat. The tortillas fell apart. I prefer Milagros tortillas. The flauta was over cooked and the meat didn’t have no flavor. Needless to say I most likely won’t be back unless they make some changes. The chips and salsa was the best part of my meal!
After being seated, I was served a basket of chips and a very small cup of salsa. When my waiter arrived, I asked for a bowl of salsa like the one the queso comes in and he refused and he returned with another small cup that was also only half full. I ordered a burrito and the jalapeño queso dip and asked about getting a larger salsa, he said he'd have to charge me 6 dollars for the salsa, because they don't allow you to have much. Fine, I agree and he brings a bowl and the queso which was 8.50.. I ask for more chips, and he tells me that will be another 6.00.. My complete dining experience was 42 bucks and change for a burrito and a coke, a cheese dip and chips and salsa.. For 1 person.. and that's before a tip. Charging 9 bucks for a large cheese dip and NOT PROVIDING CHIPS TO GO WITH IT is a huge issue.. I have to pay for both? So my dip and chips was actually 15 bucks.. smh.. On a side note, the atmosphere was pretty relaxing, typical music on the speakers, dim lighting, it was nice! And my burrito was EXCELLENT! It's just really sad and disappointing that the good is overshadowed by the extreme lack of customer service. You can't even provide chips when a customer PAYS extra for more salsa or queso?? C'mon..
Always good food and service. It is a little loud when they're busy, so expect that. We had chimichangas and fried ice cream.Food: 5/5
This is a great place to come out to celebrate any special occasion. The outside patio with a fireplace is a nice way to enjoy the few summer days in the midwest. The interior is set up like an hacienda and is very easy to accommodate almost any size party, the way the dining room is sectioned off. The bar is nice and carries a very large variety of tequilas and a nice selection of beers. If you go on a Sunday, take advantage of the half of margaritas, they are delicious. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. The service is phenomenal, the staff does a phenomenal job keeping your glasses of water full and your table clean. The food is above average and a little more on the Tex-Mex side. The portions are slightly on the small side, but they do a good job spreading it on the plate to give it the appearance of large portion. I have to come back for a dinner and a drink on a day when the mariachi band is playing. The one last thing I would like to point out is the credit card fee. I can't believe that they don't even mention it at all. They are trying to force their customer's to pay cash.
One of the best Mexican food places I have ever been too. The service was good and the food was great. They made everything to how we asked them to.Food: 4/5
Although this is not a technically a 5 star restaurant. I’m giving it 5 stars and here’s why. I’ve been coming here for 20 years. The food is good the margaritas are good. It is consistent, and the atmosphere is fun! The servers and bar tenders really care about your experience. This place has survived Covid and continues to not disappoint. I recommend anything with the Diablo sauce. Put a little spice in your life! This is not the place you come for your anniversary but for the average working man to getaway for the week with his wife or family. Carry on LaMex! Paul Potts
This was my first time ordering at this restaurant as I am new to the area and has pasted this place a million times. I should have pasted it for the 1 millions and 1 time. I called in my order and the young lady answered the phone I had to correct her when she said beef and I was ordering steak. My food was ready when I got there and when I got home it was beef tacos and not steak. I called back and they told me I ordered beef tacos so I kept the order and the tacos was horrible. All the shell fell apart and the beef had 0 flavor. I will never order from here again.
Food is alright, pretty much an upscale Pepe’s. The outdoor patio is really nice and perfect for hot days and some margaritas. Service was horrible. We were seated right away, ordered drinks and food. Didn’t see our waiter Miguel after that. A different waiter brought us the check without asking if we needed anything else, we denied the check and order more drinks, we planned on getting another round but they brought us the check again and didn’t ask us if we needed anything else so we decided just to leave. We waited about 30 minutes to check out but our waiter was no where to be found so we had to walk up to the front and pay and our waiter was at the bar just talking it up with another coworker. Do your job and serve your tables.
I had heard good things about this place, so my husband and I tried it out on a Friday afternoon. The food is ok. Chips were stale. We had the queso with chorizo appetizer, which was very good! So I had high hopes for the rest. I ordered a combo. The chicken enchiladas with green sauce were good. Steak is good, but when it was with everything else on the tostada, it didn't taste good. It was kind of bland all together. I wish I had tried a Margarita, but I didn't, unfortunately. Our server was very friendly but nonexistent! Forgot several things we asked for, like napkins and refills. It wasn't busy at all, and everything seemed to come out very slowly.
Went for an early dinner. Started with an appetizer plate. The spinach quesadillas were very good. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were delicious. The shrimp and carne asada were seasoned well and really could have been a meal on their own. I ordered the Steak Mexicali and was pleasantly surprised. The plate was filled with steak, peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms in a tasty red sauce. It was served with tortillas, refried beans, rice, guac, and sour cream. The meat was tender and was enough to make at least four filled tortillas. My husband ordered the combo fajitas, which included chicken, steak and shrimp. Again the plate was piled high and he had plenty of leftovers to take home. Our server was friendly and we got our meal quickly, although we were not rushed. I will definitely return to try sone of their other meals.
