Story

Lafene Health Center, K-State's student health care facility, is professionally accredited as an outpatient healthcare facility by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. In order to be accredited, the Health Center must meet rigorous clinical and management standards. The Health Center had been accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations continuously since 1968 through June, 2008. The financial structure of the Health Center consists of an operating budget entirely funded by KSU students through a mandatory, per student, per credit hour support fee included in the student’s tuition and through fee for service charges for ancillary services.

Lafene has great staff that have always went above and beyond for me. Their doctors and nurses take time to really visit with you and understand your needs before making recommendations. I think it is top notch service for student health care. I would go out of my way to have appointments at Lafene. It's just a bonus that I don't have a copay there as a student. Their travel clinic is great! I would highly recommend going there before overseas trips.

Lafene has been extremely frustrating in every instance I or people I know have dealt with this facility. Multiple misdiagnoses (misdiagnosing mono as strep TWICE, misdiagnosing early signs of HFMD as dehydration and inexplicable allergic reactions, and then misdiagnosing abdominal stress pains as kidney stones). Unless there is something blatantly wrong with you, such as a finger nearly torn off your hand or a gushing wound, chances are you won't be properly cared for.

Misdiagnosis, misdiagnosis and misdiagnosis, they will take a guess first and make you try plenty of drugs (that totally aren't related to your illness), until your condition become more and more serious, and then you will be recommended to another hospital.

I called in to inquire about how much a particular form of birth control would cost through them and if they accepted insurance and the lady very rudely told me they didn't accept anyone other than kstate students. I informed her that I was a KState student and then she proceeded to not be very helpful. She wasn't able to give me a ball park number and didn't even check to see how my insurance would apply. As far as scheduling goes after she continued to be rude I told her I was no longer interested in scheduling an appointment through them and would be looking at a different health clinic based off of poor customer service and a lack of doing their job in providing me financial information.
