I have to be honest and say I have a love-hate relationship with Lake Ella Park. I truly love the park, it is my favorite place to go for a walk, especially when it is hot outside because it's very shady. A walk around the lake is the perfect distance when I have my children with me. There's a really cool, huge tree trunk there that my son loves to climb, and lots of pretty areas where you can stop and sit down if you like. I have noticed a lot of homeless or transient people at the park, but they have always been friendly when I talk to them, or keep to themselves. They are in no way a nuisance, but they are present. I've noticed there are maybe some groups that provide outreach or assistance of some sort at the park for disadvantaged or homeless people, so that may be why they are more present. I don't mean to be at all offensive regarding this, I just wanted to mention it. My only real issue with the park is that it is honestly pretty disgusting sometimes. There's a huge overpopulation of ducks and geese and they make a huge mess. In the wet weather it was kind of gross because everything was damp and there is duck poop everywhere and it just smelled really bad. I also noticed a decline in the general upkeep of the lake around the same time. So not only were there Ducks everywhere and poop everywhere but there was also a lot of trash on the ground. I really wish the city would do something about the duck problem, or at least just try to keep the place cleaner. The wildlife is part of the appeal of the park, but it was just too much. I was there around mating season and while it is fun to see the baby ducks and geese, it is kind of ridiculous how great their numbers were. I wouldn't suggest going there for lunch that time of year because the geese can be quite pushy. My son sat down with a grilled cheese sandwich one time and we were surrounded within minutes and one of the geese actually started hissing at us. I think Lake Ella is gem of Tallahassee. I see a lot of people there on a regular basis, so I must not be the only one who thinks that. I wish the city would take better care of it, like the beautiful Cascades Park nearby.

Beautiful area, and a nice walking path. However, it is marred by being somewhat crowded a decent amount of the time. I've gone many times over the years and more often than not, I've had walk by groups of smokers and people sitting in their cars blasting the radio or music if I wanted to walk at all. So if you're looking for a place to walk and/or relax, I would recommend either coming here during less busy times (which is sometimes unpredictable) or just go to a different park. However, if you like being around a lot of people and don't mind the noise/smoke, then this park would be ideal for you.

Lake Ella was very relaxing. Quite a few people out walking and playing with the ducks however, if you have allergies to birds , like I do then this park could be a bad experience. My only complaint is the 100 ducks that are there. I could not get out if my car and walk. The park however, is quaint and relaxing on a beautiful day.

Lake Ella is full of ducks and geese. If you're not a fan of those, this is not the park for you. There are thousands of feathered friends here, and plenty of Florida softshell turtles if you're looking for wildlife. There are always people walking around the lake, and there are little shops along the west bank. Definitely a family-friendly environment, and a good place for couples.

Great place to sit and eat lunch or take a walk with the family. Gave it a four because sometimes a yucky crowd hangs out there. I've smelled pot being smoked as I walk around the lake... That kind of takes away from the family-ish atmosphere. Baby duck season is the best time of the year for taking little kids around the lake. The lap around the lake is less than a mile and it's smooth paved all the way around. I've seen plenty of folks pushing loved ones in wheelchairs around the paved path.
