Went to get food out of the pantry box, and an old lady came out and stated that I made 2 trips there today! Which was false! I went once today. I grabbed some items, and she told me that was enough. She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to go to a food pantry and go shopping at a store, and by the looks of my vehicle that I don't need assistance! It clearly states plain as day on the box, take what you need! I wasn't emptying out the box. But that food gets my family and I to my next pay day! Get rid of the box if you're going to be a rude and grouchy person! Show respect for people who need that extra help instead of sticking your nose up at people. I have 8 kids and a disabled husband who is a veteran and 1 child who is disabled as well
THANK YOU to the Amazing & Wonderful Lady that I Spoke with in the Buildings & Codes Department. She was Extremely Knowledgeable & Friendly. I enjoyed Speaking with Her, 1st time I felt like a Valued Person to the Community I Live in. THANK YOU & God Bless
If you take every person in this place and add up all of their brain cells together it is still less than equivalent to 1. Beyond unhelpful. Complete disregard for doing the job they are paid to do. Beyond the most ignorant group of people I’ve ever encountered in my life. Thinking of moving to lake station? You should try are beautiful neighbor Gary Indiana. They get a bad wrap in the news but trust me lake station makes Gary officials seem to be some of the best public officials around. Lake station makes Gary feel like crown point!
I recently moved to lake station last year, and since moving in, I’ve had nothing but problems with getting in contact with city hall when trying to call them over the phone, and I’ve have multiple issues with the drop box for the sewer and water bill, they lost Decembers payment, and then said it’s not our fault, we can’t keep track of cash payments, like why even have an option for the drop box when you can’t manage to keep track of payments so people aren’t out money. And if you work a real full time job you can’t pay through the drive through window, because they close at 4 technically, but half the time they close before then. and if by the grace of god you are able to make the drive through window, the line is literally out the parking lot and down the road long. And you can’t go inside and pay because that window is always closed, I asked one of the other women in another department why the inside window is always closed, and they said they don’t know, why it’s still closed, there’s 4 older women in there and only the drive through open, they’ve had multiple complaints. And then when I tried to call in and talk to the mayor to file a complaint about the water department, I was met with the most rude secretary for the mayors department. These departments are absolutely trash. I definitely don’t recommend moving into this township. This township is absolutely garbage, the way they run it is a joke.
This place is absolute trash. I’ve gone in multiple times as well as called multiple times to get assistance with a problem through the street department only to be met with incredibly rude attitudes, or literally no answers. As to the woman in the mayors office the “secretary” was rude as can be and no help and that was when she was actually at her desk. If you need help through this city, GOOD LUCK. You won’t get it here.

The lady at the clerk/treasurer office helped several people before me. She was congenial and empathetic to the people she served before me. She's the right person for that job.
I lived in Lake Station for years and I even knew the city government back then. Lake Station is a nice city to live and work in
I attended Rep Pete Visclosky‘s final round of community forums here. What a nice and innovative community building! Only problem is noise from upstairs was evident during the meeting.
Inside utility office is still closed. Most other departments are open. Update as of 9-8-2022 the sewer n trash office is window only. All other offices are open.
