Lakewood Baptist Church exists to transform people, by God's grace and for his glory, into spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ.
In 1986, Hurstbourne Baptist Church saw the need for a new church to be started in the rapidly growing East End of Louisville in order to reach people for Christ. As a result, on March 17th, 1987 a small group of 5 people met for a prayer meeting in the home of Al and Brenda Harris in Beckley Woods subdivision. In May of 1987, Dr. David Harris was called as full-time pastor for the new mission church.
In July 23, 1987 Lakewood’s present property site was purchased. The property originally consisted of 23 acres of rolling meadows with trees surrounding a small lake.
The first Sunday service conducted on the new property site was September 20, 1987 in the pre-existing 10 room farmhouse. One year later, Lakewood Baptist Church was constituted into a church on September 25, 1988 with 59 charter members. Lakewood broke ground on its beautiful worship center in late fall of 1988. The construction of the worship facility was a labor of love. Church members and Baptist Builders from other locations joined in a team effort to construct God’s house.
Each year has brought new blessings for Lakewood. The church’s ministries have continued to blossom these last 2-3 years. To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
Lakewood exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ. We would like for you to join us in that endeavor.
