Story

Lancaster Airport is a public use airport four nautical miles (5 mi, 7 km) north of the central business district of Lancaster, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is owned by the Lancaster Airport Authority. It is served by one commercial airline (subsidized by the Essential Air Service program) and one charter airline. As per the Federal Aviation Administration, this airport had 1,673 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008, 4,333 in 2009, and 6,410 in 2010. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a general aviation airport based on enplanements in 2008 (less than 2,500 per year), however it qualifies as a non-primary commercial service airport based on yearly enplanements in 2009 and 2010.HistoryThe Lancaster Airport was formed over 75 years ago as a private airport. In 1933 the Lancaster Joint Aviation Committee was formed and the decision made to operate a municipal airport. Using War Relief Funds and knowing that the airport would benefit the local unemployed constructors the Lancaster Joint Aviation Committee moved forward on modernizing the airport. They purchased 180 acres of farmland in southern Lititz and constructed the airport. In 1936 Lancaster became the second airport in Pennsylvania to two hard surface runways and was certified for both night and daytime operations. After World War II the airport was becoming obsolete so using government funds the airport was expanded and modernized with 22% of the funds needed for the update being raised by the community. On June 18, 1949 the airport was dedicated after upgrades were completed. Over the years the airport continued to improve; the terminal was renovated and expanded in the mid-1990s. Most recently runway 8/26 was expanded in length bringing it to 6,934 feet long and 150 feet wide.

Lancaster is one of the best small airports left in the country. I don't typically write reviews but I was disappointed when I saw the erroneous star rating attached to Lancaster Airport! There are many negative reviews that should be directed at the small airline that flies into the airport not the airport itself! Blasting the Lancaster airport for a poor experience on a one of these flight's is like blaming the road you drive on for your car breaking down. The actual Airport has incredible facilities and should be rated 5 stars. As for the small airline that operates from there, I have no knowledge or experience with them and can't comment for or against.

Pilots please report suspicious behavior of aircraft to local police. It is up to Americans to wake up and pay attention. We are being sprayed from planes for over 2 years we breath nano toxins. We can only see these lab toxins sprayed onto us from planes with a high power flashbulb at night or 10 million watt beam. Our leaders are aware this is being done to our food, water, air and our bodies. We have to take a stand and say no..pass it on.

Worst airport experience ever! My flight was very convenient. It was first time there and if all would have went well I was planning to frequent this airport. However, I had an absolutely horrible experience at the airport. The woman at check in was unbelievably rude to me, muttering profanity under her breath and threatening to deny my flight, for 'being late'. I was absolutely not late, i was there 21 minutes prior to my flights departure. There was not one other person was in the airport besides employees and i was one of two people on my flight, The other flyer was there after me! But wait there's more.... once boarded on the plane, the engine started and we were ready to go, 5 minutes after departure time due to the pilot talking with the mechanic, normally, no big deal. Then, the pilot gets a call from the airport staff. one of their other off duty pilots needed to ' hitch a ride' to our destination, Pittsburgh. Again no big deal right? Wrong! Our pilot told us that the off the clock pilot would be out in two minutes. So i tried to smile and enjoy the music they played while we waited.... 22 minutes went by before the off the clock pilot entered the aircraft. it was 80 degrees or so the plane was hotter inside it was a horrible wait. So they fired up the engines once again. But wait, the off the clock pilot forgot his phone on the security belt. So another 6 minutes passed while we waited for the horrible woman at check in to run the phone out to the aircraft. Normally, I wouldn't have minded waiting and everything I am an easy going guy, I go with the flow. But after being treated so horribly by the check in staff for the exact reason we were held up by one of their staff, and sitting uncomfortably on the above 80 degree aircraft for almost 30 minutes past departure, my mind was just completely blown. One of the most unprofessional experiences of my life. When I finally got to Pittsburgh, my girlfriend was tired, uncomfortable, hot, and bored from sitting in the airport parking lot for an extra 45 minutes. Oh, and we missed our dinner reservation as well because of this. I will NEVER fly out of this airport again unless something is done about this incident. On top of it all, i have been trying to contact someone about this so another flyer doesn't have to go through the same experience as I did, and nowhere can i find a contact number other than for the front desk. Just unbelievable. Its very unfortunate for both parties because i now have business in Pittsburgh, and was really hoping to frequent this airport. I wouldn't recommend this airport to anyone!

For a regional airport that's open to the public, it should have small jets that don't kill people's ears. My grandma flew into this airport and her ears were messed up the whole entire time. But it's convenient to access and is very clean.
