Story

3 Screens. Built in 1930. Operated by Landmark since 1986. Featuring Denver's finest in independent film and foreign language cinema, the Mayan Theatre is located in the heart of Central Denver amongst a bevy of art galleries, restaurants and vintage clothing stores in the Baker District.

The historic Mayan, built in 1930, narrowly missed the wrecking ball in the mid-1980s, when, at the eleventh hour, it was saved by the local group "Friends of the Mayan." In 1986, The Mayan was restored to its former glory. Renovated meticulously at a cost of nearly $2 million, it is one of the country's three remaining theatres designed in the Art Deco Mayan Revival style. It has been converted into a three-screen palace, with one large, magnificent auditorium and two cozy theatres upstairs, featuring stadium seating.

There is also an upstairs cafe and seating area.

Operating Hours:

Gorgeous, historic theater in the very unusual Mayan revival style, now operated by the Landmark chain. Three screens. Excellent popcorn with real butter and a nice bar upstairs. Always interesting films. Parking can be difficult in this area, but the Mayan has a private lot on the east side of Lincoln Street, behind the theater, and also shares the parking lot directly behind it. The seats are getting a bit dated and could be more comfortable.

Great place to see indy films that other theaters don’t have. It’s also in a really fun neighborhood. The only bad thing is that the seats are somewhat uncomfortable, but I still love this place

The Mayan Theater in Denver is a 1930s historic landmark; one of only 3 Art Deco Mayan Revival style theaters remaining. it has comfortable seats, 3 theaters and a full bar. It is operated by Landmark Theaters and shows a variety of independent films

Vintage theater! Took the kids to see the Bill Nye movie. It was great for them to experience an important movie in such a classic place!

A great historic location to watch movies. They have a great bar with specialty themed drinks inspired by the films that are being shown at any given point. A member of the staff introduces every film before it starts, and they are all very knowledgeable; every introduction can be a learning experience.
