I have lived in Larimer County for over 50 years and have never had as bad an experience as I just had with the Sheriffs Department. I have some very inconsiderate neighbors who leave their dog outside all day long barking no stop. They have now taken that to the next step and are leaving the dog outside all night long barking as well. When I called the Sheriff's office because it was 3am and no one could sleep because of this constant barking I was told that the deputies do not handle barking dogs even if it is the middle of the night, and that there was nothing that could be done about it. They told me to call animal control and they would do an investigation but they won't do anything at night. So basically we have to live with this barking dog all night and all day because animal control says there is nothing that can be done, and the Sheriff's office won't do anything. Very disappointed.

In the 40 years that I have called Larimer County home, I have always found the Sheriff's department and its deputies to be fair, professional and pleasant to work with. And have never had a complaint, until this week. I have a negligent cat owner as a neighbor, who has odd beliefs about how to care for pet cats. She leaves them outside most of the time, and does not provide them with accessable water and food, or with shelter in the case of bad weather. She also underfeeds them, giving them dryfood only once when she lets them in at night and one teaspoon each of canned catfood per day, maybe, depending on the day. I have tried to explain to her that unlike dogs, cats need to eat small amounts of food repeatedly through out the day, but she does not leave any out for them. She has not been receptive to any suggestion about her need to provide food, water and shelter for her cats, nor does she concern herself with the fact that they use my rose and flower beds as litter boxes and kill the birds in the nests in my trees. I have put up with the destruction of my property (dead rose bushes and a dead clamatis vine, and raided bird nests) and have been providing her cats with water, a can of cat food a day for two years now, without her knowledge, and fixed a shelter for them to go in when it rains or snows. And have tried to remain on good terms with their owner, my neighbor at the same time. Until this week when I finally told her I thought she was providing her cats with substandard care and requested that the Humane Society educate her about her responsibilities as a pet owner in this county. She flipped out and began pounding very loudly on my door and windows in a threatening way, wanting a confrontation and attempting to intimidate me. And she kept at it through out the day, so I called the sheriff. The deputy that responded was very young and apparently unfamiliar with the county animal code. He did tell her to stop with the door and window pounding, but then recommended that I refrain from "inviting the cats onto my property" as if an invitation were necessary. Most importantly, he did not address the destruction of my flower beds or the killing of the nesting birds in my trees, both of which are clear violations of the county's animal code. This left me wondering where does one turn when at-large animals are allowed by their owners to destroy your property in violation of the county's animal code? If the sheriff doesn't police these violations, who does? Why is the code written but not enforced? So, after many years without complaint, I now have one, and can only give the Sheriff's Department a four star rating.

I have a son that is an addict. The Larimer County Sheriff's office has always been considerate of this issue and I have no complains, only gratitude.

I am a small business owner and I paid $220K tax in 2015 alone. One busy Saturday afternoon with many reservation guests, 4 police cars parked for almost 2 hours to arrest one guy who was trespassing our property to see one of my employees. It is our fault that we didn't chase the trouble maker away, but all I asked the officers was "Please take him" to an empty space right next our property not to give bad impression to our guests. I mean I know they are heroes and take care of us, but they can at least consider the small things to protect small business owners. The small things mean a lot to us and very important to help us to maintain our business. I had some great police officials who truly understood that because his father was a small business owner. I still appreciate him.
