In terms of food this is my favorite restaurant in Boston. Every time I’m craving Thai food or just have no idea what to eat I’ll order delivery from them. They have so many dish options that you can’t find in most other Thai restaurants. I would recommend the pork short rib soup, any dishes with beef shank, kua gai similar to pad see ew but not sweet. The portion is normally nice, and they pack the food pretty well.
If you're looking for authentic Northern Thai food, come to this place. The dishes we ordered were really good. Authentic as it could be without going to Thailand. We got som tum aka papaya salad. Khao Soi beef tendon and Panang Nuar Nong Lai with beef brisket, Thai ice tea, and sticky rice. All the dishes were really good, but the Panang Nuar Nong Lai broth was salty. The Thai ice tea was a bit sweet for me. The portions are good-sized. The bill came out to 61 dollars. The place is small. It has about 7 tables. I would definitely come back again.
Laughing Monk Cafe is a treasure trove of unique Thai cuisines that mesmerize the palate with their distinctive Isan, Northeastern Thai style. This place echoes their original outpost in Mission Hill, but with an exciting twist - an almost completely revamped menu, teeming with vibrant, lesser-known Thai dishes. One of their standout dishes was the Isan sausage. It was a blend of ground pork and vermicelli, peppered with spices. The slight sour taste enhanced the pork's umami flavor, and the addition of ginger chunks and nuts made for refreshing palate cleansers between mouthfuls, efficiently cutting through the rich grease. The Kor Moo Yang, chargrilled marinated pork jowl, was well-executed. However, it lacked that 'wow' factor to truly set it apart. The Khao Soi with beef tendon, on the other hand, was a delightful dish. The sinewy tenderness of the beef tendon harmonized beautifully with the yellow curry, wonton crisps, and onions, creating a layered taste and texture profile. While slightly leaning on the spicier side, the heat level was comfortably palatable. The only misstep was the Thai Iced Tea. Its sweetness was a bit too overpowering, bordering on cloying. But don't let this minor hiccup deter you. Laughing Monk Cafe is a must-visit for those seeking to delve into the less explored regions of Thai cuisine.
Amazing and authentic Thai food. The menu had many items at a very reasonable price, and the food came out very fast and was delicious. Very kind staff and the restaurant had a clean and casual interior.Food: 5/5
Lovely place. The restaurant is small but it’s Allston, understand. Food is great!Food: 5/5
This place is worth visiting. After reading some positive reviews, decided to give it a try and I've found that this is the most authentic Thai food I ever had in Boston. Server was very friendly. My fav menu is Moo ping and Somtum.
Delicious and authentic thai food! There were a lot if Thai patrons, and I briefly lived in northern Thailand and haven’t had Isan Thai cuisine in the US this good in a long time. The Som Tum was awesome, the crying tiger brisket was INCREDIBLE, and the larb gai was really good too. Everything else other people were eating looked and smelled great. Will be back!!
The moo ping is amazing. Tastes great and is tender. The satay chicken is meh. Not dry, but not flavorful. The roti is really not that good. Definitely better Thai places around. Still worth a try tho. Has a good ambience. Take out is interesting.
The food here is very tasty and the service was good! However, I'm docking a star. The rice was $3 to go along with a curry dish priced as though it would come with rice compared to other Thai places I've eaten at in the Boston area. Also, the seating room here is small. My friend and I were lucky we arrived at a good time and there was space.
Very recommend Thai north-eastern menus
