I had the misfortune of hiring this "attorney" a couple months ago. Basically, he made a bunch of promises he could not keep just so I could give him my business. My son was living in another state for six months, which gives the state personal jurisdiction over him. Prior to this, he supposedly spoke with a colleague that said we would be able to file in Michigan. He had to receive a letter from a legal aid in Michigan explaining why we didn't have jurisdiction. It's almost comical. When I started to see things were going nowhere with this guy, I started reaching out more to him. I would send him texts and emails and he would not respond, and even got upset and raised his voice at me when I called him to ask why, complaining I call him every day. After everything was said and done, he did not refund the retainer that was initially agreed upon, because reading an email takes hundreds of dollars. I hired a real lawyer and  witnessed how a true, professional lawyer interacts with their clients. I did not receive the same interaction with Joel.
