Le Pain Quotidien

Story

We’re a Belgian bakery and restaurant serving simple, wholesome and seasonal food. Le Pain Quotidien means “the daily bread” in French, and like our name suggests, we’re bakers at heart. Although our handmade, organic bread is how we got our start, we serve a variety of healthy options like organic coffee, pastries, eggs, tartines, soups, salads and desserts.

At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that food should be simple, nourishing and delicious. That’s why we source ingredients that are local or organic whenever possible. We also believe in the importance of eating a healthy, plant-based diet, so you’ll find many vegetarian or vegan options on our menu.

A lovely, French style, organic restaurant and bakery. The vegan gazpacho soup is served with crusty French bread complete with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. A very special treat on a warm California day. Friendly, knowledgeable and fast service. The large menu is marked with vegan and gluten-free items. Free WiFi. Everything is wheelchair accessible including the bathrooms. Patio and interior seating. Free validated parking. There is a table that seats twenty or so, lots of smaller tables and highchairs for the kids. The restaurant is located in the original Producer Alliance Building. On the walls, around the courtyard are mosaics of famous Academy award-winners.

Warning: not actually a bakery/boulangerie. They do sell French style baked goods though. All I had was their baguette which is the benchmark for any bake shop worth its salt. The verdict: exceptionally average at best. I'm skeptical if they can't even get this staple right. The crust was way too soft and inside was too fluffy and lacked the essential chewiness. The rest of the menu looks nice, but quite expensive. Location and outdoor seeing are good. If you don't mind spending loads on basics, this is a great place to chill.

I had a wonderful meal of soup and salad. Then bought a hazelnut baguette and macaroons. The only difficulty was the noise as it was hard to hear my friends.

Pretty decent little place. Cute atmosphere. Cappuccino was above average. Bread and bakery goods were pretty good. Reasonably priced.
