Story

Literati Bookstore is an independent general bookstore in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan. Literati Bookstore opened March 31, 2013 in the hopes of adding and enhancing the vibrant downtown culture and arts scene. We aim to be a place where book lovers can go, talk, and interact with each other. We host author readings, book clubs, poetry nights, children's story times, and free book clubs.

Please note that while our first floor has an accessible entrance on 4th Avenue, we do not have an elevator. Enough said.
But, I'm gonna keep talking. Really friendly staff who are well trained, knowledgeable and can find whatever you want in the blink of an eye. On the shelves are small cards giving a short enticing summary, written by staff, of staff selected good reads. There is a coffee shop upstairs, along with the young children's book section, to complete everything a good book store should have.

Literati Bookstore serves the reading community more as an ark than just a bookstore. I mean Noah's Ark. Preserved inside this three story book store are the energies of Shaman Drum books, the Little Professor Bookstore and Borders. This is like the cradle made of wattles upon which Moses was set to float so that a royal daughter could find it and nurture it. Everything Ann Arbor has learned about running a bookstore and creating a literary community around the store has found safekeeping here. The literary events are sublime, even when the authors are rookies and not Pulitzers. Happy to see the mecca stay vibrant for so many years.

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Bookstore is laid out nicely. Not like a Barnes & Noble huge store but a nice friendly sized store with an excellent collection. As a sidebar  they  are very into typewriters!

I'm impressed with the vibe and most of all the community connectedness of this bookstore. It's a newer independent bookstore that, unlike many of the unfortunate others, is well-poised to survive because they pride themselves on having a great knowledge of these books. Plenty of speaking events, as well as co-sponsorship of community events. The staff is a lot of fun; we entered a costume contest on Halloween!

I've found a lot of great books here! Not too overwhelming, and it's awesome to support local bookstores. Their art book and magazine selection is incredible!
