I went to this library recently and one of the librarians was very condescending towards me and treated me like I was an idiot. There were several books that were marked as available online.. So I placed them on hold. You would think the books would then be placed on the shelf for pickup. But apparently if a book says it's available at the library online the correct action is to them call to have them set the book aside for pickup which I didn't know I had to do and doesn't make any sense to me. So as the librarian was describing this to me he was very rude and impatient with me.

I wish they have more comfortable seatings and better children's area like Novi or Farmington.

I should've listened to the reviews that stated, "The librarians are rude and loud." The whole time I was in the library, the librarians were chatting away at high volume. Laughing loudly and going on and on. Very highly annoying and distracting. It is quieter in some of the coffee shops I frequent. Also, outlets are lacking. Most libraries I frequent have plugs in abundance by the comfy seats and tables. Not here...I'm sure they are somewhere, but they should be accessible wherever you are studying.

I grew up going to this library both for fun and for school research and never had a bad experience. The librarians have always been friendly and helpful, the name of the librarian in the children's section when I was little escapes me, but she was always pleasant and helped me find any books I needed. I rarely go anymore due to having a pc-and tons of books at home I still need to read- but when I occasionally do it's been the same. Everything is peaceful and the librarians are helpful. I'm sure librarians have bad days like any of us, but it's still a shock to here people calling them rude and having bad experiences with them. I obviously wasn't there but I believe some people just take offense to the littlest things-like being asked to quiet down. To the person who had a timed test; its it possible you are just very sensitive to noise (I used to be when i was a kid) and were just anxious about your test? Perhaps they were just suggesting you'd be more comfortable int he study room and you took it as them saying you were the problem? Again I wasn't there but I think those who have had negative experiences need to reflect on them; sometimes later we realize what really happened wasn't actually what we thought happened because we were upset in the moment. If someone was really rude to any of you please understand librarians are people too and everyone has a bad day. It's not an excuse but it's just the truth. We are all human and sometimes when we are dealing with our own problems it's difficult to maintain a professional appearance. About the library itself; I love how they have new programs like movie nights; I just wish they would have more information about their movies on their website. And the website doesn't seem to be available late at night, which I understand is probably to save money but inconveniencing for me.But overall I think the Civic Center has struck a good balance between keeping up with the times and being a nostalgic place that someday I hope to take my own children to.
