Excellent turn out to the Bengali resistance in the east end event 7th May 2022
Trying to find a relative that appears to have disappeared without trace I made an appointment to visit the archives and check some records, although unsuccessful in my search the two members of staff were very helpful with suggestions for further research I can do, I intend to make a further visit shortly to continue my search.
What I can say is what I know from the 1960s to the present day and that is: low standards and corruption have supremacy here...and that early on a teacher from my local school-MR TRACY, had colluded with the Head librarian to prevent a child-ME- from gaining access to learning, so as to cover up and prevent knowledge of abuses IN 1969. That many items from the history collection had been given away and dispersed.. because they didn't have the space ,and/or didn't care what happened to it. This is what happened when I visited and used the facilities of the library in 1984....I was sat down in the reading room of the Local history library when a blond-haired lad of average height asked if he could take an object from the collection which was a much corroded ,weathered figure of a man on a horse but a ghost of one! The Curator agreed to him taking it ,upon saying"say it was him that took it "nodding at me.. The curator then went about his business... A year later I was selling some things in the Lane Brick Lane Market when the same blond boy presented this ghost figure holding it up to my face then knocking my chin with it...Being hard and leaden I remember the painful blow I did receive with it. The very archivist did follow in his deed by confronting me and accusing me then punching me in the stomach. That information /articles and Newspapers containing information regarding abusive teachers and priests are deliberately and conveniently lost. That the archivists have been and are in long talks with Governors of local schools and have long-standing links with them... Also , their facilities are very old and out of date ...few and far between that the increasing demand has to cope with. They have a long list of priority expenses to deal with that they cannot afford to tackle due to continued cutbacks...
A really nice local asset. An exhibition of photographs of east London 70s and 80s was very interesting
