Here is a breakdown of my rating: Their ability to provide an honest and accurate moving quote prior to your move = 1 star. The move ended up being twice as much as what was quoted prior to my move. Sure you could say that I ended up having more stuff than they anticipated, but (1) I was very detailed in my assessment over the phone, (2) professional movers moved my belongings only two years prior and that move cost half as much, and (3) for some reason the hourly rate increased by about 20% for the unloading portion of the move, and that was never really explained, and there were more movers present than originally quoted. The actual move = 3.5 stars. The movers were friendly and professional and seemed to work quickly. However, they didn't seem to understand that heavier boxes should go towards the bottom of piles while lighter boxes should go towards the top (many boxes were crushed in the move). They also damaged a few pieces of furniture. After the move = 0 stars. I made a claim for one of those damaged pieces of furniture on the spot (the other pieces I opted to fix myself); it was a ripped leather chair. They sent me an email a week after the move saying that their vendor would contact me within a week or two . I waited a month with no call back. Contacted LM and they said they switched vendors and a new vendor would contact me. The new vendor eventually contacted me, but then they decided that they would just cut me a check instead of fixing the chair (and the amount of the check would definitely not cover what it would actually cost to repair that chair, but I guess I'm kind of stuck with that). That was towards the beginning of January. They said the check could take up to 60 days because.... maybe they don't use computers? Maybe they rely on homing pigeons to bring the check from Antarctica? My move was towards the beginning of November. It is now March, and they still haven't made good on that check. I've had to follow-up several times now. I think they just wait for people to forget or lose interest in following up.

Starting off, the estimate originally given to me was WAY off, but I didn't find that out until they were halfway through my move. I would never have gone with them had I known the actual amount it would cost. The move out of my house went pretty well. The movers were clean, took apart furniture and wrapped it to protect it. They were on time and professional. That's about where the good of this experience ended. The delivery to my new house did not go nearly as smoothly as the pick up from my old house. Boxes were stacked upside down and crushing the boxes below. They broke the doorbell mechanism off my wall, and shattered a piece of table glass. I filed a claim and was told I would be contacted in 7-14 business days. I was never contacted and reached out to the company and the contractor that was supposed to be contacting me several times. Why they had a contractor assigned to me to see if they could fix my shattered glass is beyond me. It took a couple of weeks for it to be determined that they would be issuing a payout instead of replacement. I was told a check would be sent to me between 5-10 days. That also did not happen. I made several phone calls to the company, left messages and emails for people and never had them returned. Finally I reached out to the general manager who refunded my credit card the amount I was owed that day. It took over 2 months from the time of my move for me to be refunded the money for damage to my property. I honestly would not recommend anyone use them. Their customer service is terrible when they damage your property.

If I could give this company a zero, I would. After spending a great deal of time with "Bill" discussing the number of boxes and each piece of furniture that would be moved, where it was going, that it would all be wrapped, the beds taken down and set up again and a lay over between leaving one place before we could move into another, he told me it would be between $600-$750. I called a week before we moved and had the same conversation with him again. We got all moved and when the young man gave me the bill, it was in excess of $1500. To say I was shocked was an understatement. Then he informed me that they had already covered the cost with the card number that I gave them for the deposit. I called "Bill" on Monday and he assured me that it must have been a mistake as final costs are generally between 5% and 10% of his estimates. He told me he would look into it and call me back. I finally called him on Friday and he told me that it took the movers longer than they expected and this is why it was more. If I told them all that was moving, why did it take them longer than expected and why did we end up paying for their mistake? They did end up giving me a $177 credit for the layover time. Big deal. We also filed a claim for a badly scratched dining room chair and a completely broken coat rack. The rack had sentimental attachment as it was the very first piece that my husband and I bought together when we got married. We moved over a month ago and no one has called us about the damaged pieces. I would say to use this company only if you get your estimate in writing. But then again, they claim to record their phone conversations and that didn't matter. I even wrote a letter to the general manager with no reply. Unethical people are running this business. Very sad.

I first used Local Motion about a year ago when I moved out of my home. I then stored my belongings and furniture—including a grand piano—at their storage facility until just recently when they moved everything into my new home. When I needed to accesss my belongings in their facility to look for something several months ago, they were helpful and accommodating. During the move into my new home, they were respectful, courteous and took good care as they moved things off the truck and into the house, sometimes through narrow doorways and around tight corners. There were minor scratches on a few things, but I expected that after two moves—I can’t even be certain they are responsible for the scratches. I did not notice any damage to my piano. I feel they went above and beyond in helping us set up and assemble things. In looking for things I feel could use improvement, I can find two little things. They didn’t immediately cover the newly refinished stairs and new carpet when moving things into my new house, so they initially were tracking in water and snow. When we asked them to cover the floors better, they did so immediately. Also, when I was storing things in their facility, monthly invoices were often sent irregularly and sometimes not at all. A few times, when I didn’t get an invoice, I didn’t remember to pay my monthly bill. I received one somewhat irate email from them when they hadn’t received one payment. When I told them I hadn’t received an invoice, they admitted they didn’t always send them out at the same time every month. I never received an irate email again, but invoices were often still sent out irregularly. Those were two small issues in an overall great experience!

Tyler, Joseph and Eric did a fantastic job of quickly and efficiently moving. They were so polite and respectful which seems to be less and less common these days. I'm excited to use this company again in March. Thanks guys.
