5 stars because Lake Lochloosa Harbor is what it is...a fish camp. The camp store was clean and well stocked with fishing tackle. Free coffee and war stories there in the mornings with the local guys. We had dinner at the dinner one night and it was good...simple fare but good. Chuck Roast. The facilities are simple but adequate and clean. The cabins are small and the mattresses a little dated and not firm enough but the AC was good and the TV worked. Small kitchenette was plenty and the screened front porch as nice to sit on during the cooler moments. Fishing was slow...water temp was close to 90! This is mainly a Crappie lake though from what I can tell. They called them "Specks". I managed to get one Bass that was about 3# so I was happy. The ramp drops off but I didn't have any problem launching or trailering our boat. Downtown Hawthorne was less than 10 miles away if you want to get a bite or some groceries and Gainesville was about 30 minutes away. I took the family there for a nice dinner there one night as well. If you can be happy with simple accommodations run by good folks than I suggest you try Lake Lochloosa..

Stopped here for a quick overnight stay. Came in late after making reservations on the phone. Everything was as described. Looks like it would be a good place for fishing or boating. Only issue was train noise but not huge.

Good place to visit as long as you're a white person and aren't Black....took my two boys (11 & 14 yr olds) and two of their friends with us last weekend to Lochloosa Harbor. We rented "The Lodge" which is a very spacious 2 bedroom house with a dock to fish from in the front yard. "The Lodge" needless to say needed a really good cleaning and it's decor could use some updating. The fishing was below average the day we visited which could partly be because the water was very low which made the water around the docks really disgusting. The diner was under renovation and I was not told that info until we arrived that evening with very little groceries as we though we'd eat at the diner. The biggest prob I had though is the way the owner /store clerk treated my sons friend ( who is a 15 yr old black boy.) They were extremely rude and I really believe they do not care to let black people stay at their hotel. The previous night I overheard some old local white men talking about a black guy whos boat was sinking as they watched, not one person offered to help the poor man instead that made comments and said some very racist remarks in front of him.
