Decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at The Lodge with our next door Tahoe Donner neighbors.  We try to support The Lodge as TD owners.  This year's Thanksgiving Dinner was buffet style so they could serve more customers.  It was an utter disaster.  The food line often ran out of a dish, sometimes two, and no one was there to supervise or order more from the kitchen.  The dark turkey meat was sliced into cubes and we were unable to bite into it.  The white turkey meat was overcooked, as were the yams which again we were unable to cut or chew.  The stuffing was awful - - none of us could recognize it as stuffing - - loose, dry, awful.   The mashed potatoes were good, as were the gravy and cranberry sauce, but the kept running out of all three.  You might expect something like this at Sizzler, but not at The Lodge and for those prices.  Not sure if the chef has been there too long and is just bored with things, if the manager hasn't the requisite experience, but something is very wrong when you put out a holiday meal, mainly for your owners, and it is so bad.  The Lodge needs to put some serious high level management attention into special meals like this and make sure this never happens again.  It was really a disaster.

Whether you're looking for a fine dining experience in the quiet ambiance of the dining room, a night out with the whole family in the porch or a shifter and hearty meal in the pub after a long day at work, you'll find it all here. The Lodge is all about supporting local economy, so its menus are constantly changing with the season, though they keep the crowd favorites like the Shrimp and Pork Dumplings and the outstanding Short Rib on the menu year round. The Lodge is also the home of the best burgers in Truckee. Never a disappointment!

This is a hidden gem, mostly residents eat at The Lodge because we know how great it is. The menu has excellent small plates and delicious dinners. We are regulars and have never had a bad meal. The service is excellent - servers seem glad to be there and want you to have a great experience. Great ambience, sit by the huge fireplace in the winter.
