About

The Dog Kennel is the county facility for temporarily housing stray and unwanted dogs. This page is run by volunteers.

Story

If a dog is adopted from the facility, they require a free mandatory spay or neuter of your dog.

The Lorain County Dog Kennel's mission is to serve the citizens of Lorain County in the seizure of stray and at large dogs.
Adoption Fee

Licensing is a requirement of state law. The license, attached to your dog’s collar, will identify you as the owner should the dog be lost.
-Lorain County vaccinates dogs with a parvo combo vaccine and a kennel cough vaccine. New owners will need to re-vaccinate the dogs later.
-Lorain County has arranged for all dogs to be spayed or neutered before adoption.
-As required by Ohio Law, the kennel holds all stray dogs 3 business days to give the owner time to find and redeem their dog.

***This page is run by a few volunteers of the Lorain County Dog Kennel, in hopes to network for these dogs, and find them loving forever homes. We hope all of your questions about the kennel have been answered here. If they have not, please send us a message or email.

A lot of pretty dogs however the rescues always get chosen to take all the purebreds instead of a loving family’s that would give the dog a great home meanwhile rescues get these dogs for the small fee and turn around and sell for 400+

When I heard the words "Dog Kennel" or " Dog Pound" as a kid, I would cringe. The first thing that popped into my head was a kennel full of sad, lost, and scared dogs that were already on their way to being put down if the owner didn't come get them. The Lorain County Dog Kennel has completely changed that, they hardly ever have to put dogs down, now! Thanks to the many rescue organizations and the local Animal Protective League, the kennel's euthanizing rate has gone down nearly 80%. Also, staff is very helpful in answering any questions you may have.
