I had a C-Spine fusion in the late 90's done by Dr. McDonnell with the assistance of Dr. Peter Sheddin, Neurosurgeon.  The fusion turned out to be more extensive than he anticipated.  He was able to get the procedure done in spite of this.  He is an OUTSTANDING Otho. Surgeon and a great Dr. to deal with.  He is very upfront and honest and gives you all details of what to expect for any procedures that have to be done.  He is a No Non-sense type Dr. who will only suggest or recommend a procedure that will be beneficial.  At the same time, he will quickly tell you if a procedure will not likely be of benefit.  Something somewhat rare this day and time.
He provides his patients with adequate pain control Post-Op, and during your recovery period.  He is very conservative with Narcotics and one doesn't have to worry about him over-prescribing or becoming addicted due to any procedures he does.

After using him for my surgery and follow up I did not have a single complaint, as he was always available anytime I needed him.  He was even kind enough to provide his patients with a number of appliances that made life easier during the recovery period, free of charge, ie, a cane, a tool to keep you from having to bend if you dropped anything, along with several other items that made life easier.

I would make every effort to arrange to see him again should I ever need spinal surgery again.  Awesome communication and friendly personality combined with his outstanding skill as a Physician make for as pleasant an experience as one could have during this kind of surgery!
