The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History

Story

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum is the only African American Museum in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA, Augusta and its Surrounding Areas). The museum, which opened in 1991, is a small house museum that was the former home of Miss Lucy Craft Laney.

The museum is located in the Historic Laney-Walker District, near the original site of the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute. The mission of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History is to promote the legacy of Ms. Lucy Craft Laney through arts and history. We accomplish this awesome task by educating and exposing children and adults of the CSRA, the State and beyond to the arts, history, literature and leadership through exhibits and programs.

This was a great experience for me and my family. Very informational and inspiring.

I arrived during operational hours. .
 Walked around on outside took pics walked onto garden area. .meanwhile looking for an open door to get in..
FINALLY came to where the parking lot is and went and rang bell 3x..
 Finally a young lady came to door and I asked if Museum was open? 
 She said yes but just a, minute. . Walked away came back within 30 seconds only to ask me if I can come, back at 1pm..I politely said no... and asked why she said tour starts at 1.. then I said is everyone OTL?
 She, said, yes. . So I said I would, try another day . "NOT !"
 Now how do you have these great little historical sites .. and have certain hours and days. . Listed. .. and no one around so that a person coming from the other side of the continent came to see Lucy Craft ..
