The City Marshal is Mark Carnley. The Lufkin City Marshal's Office works with the Lufkin Municipal Court to provide services to the citizens of Lufkin.
Duties of the Lufkin City Marshal’s Office
The Lufkin City Marshal’s Office provides support to the Municipal Court by serving and clearing outstanding Class “C” misdemeanor warrants. Municipal Court has jurisdiction over Class “C” misdemeanor offenses only, (those punishable by fine only). Per Texas Local Government Code, The City Marshal has county wide jurisdiction within the county the municipal court is located. (1)
The Lufkin City Marshal’s Office also provides security in the courtroom during court proceedings, provide assistance to the Judge, City Prosecutor and jurors along with the court staff. (2)
The Lufkin City Marshal’s Office is also responsible for the review of all Red Light Camera violations within the city limits of Lufkin and the issuance of citations. (3)
(1) The Municipal Judge issues a warrant for a person who does not comply with either not appearing for an assigned court date or non-compliance of a court order. Once the warrant has been issued, the person’s information is entered into Omnibase, a vendor for Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), who will in turn deny the person’s ability to renew their Texas Driver’s license. Upon resolution of the case, the Court will advise Omnibase of the clearance and DPS will reinstate the person’s ability to renew their driver’s license.
(2) No weapons of any kind are allowed in the courtroom. A metal detector was purchased and installed to help ensure the safety of all persons in the courtroom. All persons and their possessions are subject to search before entry into the courtroom. There is a dress code for Municipal Court which is enforced: no bare feet, no tank top shirts, no cut-off pants, no miniskirts, no halter or tube tops, no pants or jeans that are ripped or torn exposing the underwear or skin of the person wearing them. Additionally, no baggy pants or exposed underwear will be allowed in the Municipal Court. No T-Shirts with obscene, vulgar, derogatory, drug or narcotic related slogans or images or any image or language deemed offensive will be allowed to enter Municipal Court. All people wearing a hat will remove it upon entering the courtroom. Cell phones and pagers must be silenced before entering the courtroom.
(3) The fine for a Red Light Camera Citation is $75. Failure to pay this fine by the due date will result in an additional fee of $25 being added to the fine. Failure to pay this citation may result in your inability to renew the vehicle registration of the vehicle involved. The Lufkin City Marshal’s Office will diligently protect and defend the institution of our Municipal Court, the safety and security of our Judges, court staff, and the citizens who attend Municipal Court. In order to insure the credibility of the Court, and encourage accountability of our citizens, the Marshal’s office will relentlessly pursue and bring to justice those persons with outstanding warrants.

(A) Pursuant to the authority of Article IV, Section 3, of the City Charter, there is hereby created the Office of City Marshal, which shall consist of a City Marshal and such deputies as may be authorized from time to time through the funding of such positions in the city's annual budget.
(B) The City Marshal shall be appointed by the City Manager without competitive examination, shall report to the City Manager, or his or her designee, and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Manager.
(C) The City Marshal, and such deputies as may be authorized from time to time, shall not be members of the Police Department, but shall be independent.
