Pretty darn good! The half chicken combo is great. It comes with two sides plus a corn bread. I'm not usually a big fan of brussels sprouts but this was an exception. It was seasoned well & roasted to perfection. I have heard the short ribs is a hit but I have yet to try it. The corn bread was a little too sweet for my liking but still good. Definitely coming back!
Lula Bird is like another reviewer mentioned, just okay. I have tried them a handful of times to properly assess and these are my takeaways. The rotisserie chicken isn't particularly spiced well and the portion is tiny for the price point AND because they play 'roulette' with the side offerings, you have to know when the items that you would like to have paired with the order will be available. Often times there is one side you would like to try, but it isn't the right day and is thus not available. I have tried their mac and cheese avail on Sun. & Tues. , which I didn't find to be very good. Mac & Cheese is such a controversial dish in it's own right, but their's seems to be roux based and the taste of flour was too prominent. and I was missing the cheese all together. It also had toasted breadcrumbs on top, which would have been fine, but it tasted like they just toasted the breadcrumbs and the actually mac and cheese below wasn't part of the baking process. I appreciate that their collard greens are not super vinegar forward, something lots of places get wrong, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The latter can also be said of the brussel sprouts, which actually used to be better in the past but have since changed. I love eggplant and decided to try it since it was available the day of ordering. I called the restaurant to inquire how it was prepared and a simple question like that could not be answered by the employee who answered the phone, nor the chef that he handed the phone off too. Despite the eggplant being described as being prepared in a 'szechuan' style, the szechuan eggplant didn't give any element of spice and was so disgustingly mushy that it went in the trash. Most ppl mess up eggplant because they don't realize that it is a water springing vegetable that requires a bit of a salt brine to take out some of that moisture. Their rice is also nothing special. It was a bit overcooked and consists of onion and tomato, the latter a wet ingredient that added a bit to the mush. It reminds me a bit on how Thai fried rices are also prepared. The real star of the show are their roasted potatoes. They are salted, spiced and roasted to perfection. I have no notes. The cornbread is also an item that may cause some controversy. I like it enough. A bit bland, so I usually pop some butter on it and melt it since it always seems to be lacking a bit of salt. For those who prefer a less dense take on this southern side OR do no like corn in their cornbread, this version is not for you. I have also had their tiramisu. The flavor is good and I can tell that lady fingers have been soaked properly to evoke the coffee flavor intended, but unfortunately the ratio of lady fingers to marscapone is way off, so the dessert is unbalanced and consists of mostly the creme. They are not close by so I ate the $5 delivery fee plus other upcharges, but I find no reason to do so anymore given my experience and this food case study wrap up.
I feel very sad that I didn’t find this place sooner. Insanely delicious food. The cornbread is one of those things you taste and are literally transported elsewhere. The veggie terrine is also delicious. And highly highly recommend the root veggies and okra and sweet potatoes and collared greens!Food: 5/5
Oh my gosh, this food is out of this world delicious, only to be matched by equally as spectacular service. The cornbread is a cross between corn bread and corn pudding, but somehow better than both. The chicken is succulent, the potatoes are perfectly seasoned and so perfectly done. I've ordered three times and the food is consistently great each time. Thank you!
If you love herbaceous, flavorful, perfectly seasoned chicken and sides, then this is the restaurant for you! One of my favorite finds in Brooklyn and is surely a staple if you’re in the area. I order once a week at least and try to time it around my favorite sides. They rotate special sides that are easy to taste how each one they care about. Also their cornbread is out of this world! I’m trying to figure out the spice combination on the chicken that gives it such an amazing flavor while also feeling clean on the pallete. The potatoes are the must have go to and if you’re in on a Friday, I recommend the CousCous. Another entree that will blow you away is their short rib! The flavor in one serving with vegetables soaked in the drippings is heavenly! Only downfall is there’s been no seating, so you have to take it home. But honestly it’s so good you’ll walk to their nearest bench to indulge without the wait! It’s that kind of good that you can’t wait to get home
I’m not sure why it took me 5 years to come here. I’m annoyed with myself! What a perfect healthy quick dinner option! Flavors of everything was delicious. It kinda tasted like thanksgiving minus the sweet potato pie. Def recommend this place if you just want a yummy filling easy healthy dinner option. Pricing is great. Chicken and Roast were both heaven. 10/10 will be back :
The chicken is juicy the cornbread is moist and the sides are fire. Lula bird never disappoints. Portions are generous too!Food: 5/5
Really like the food here - at least everything I have tried so far chicken, roast potatoes, collards! Consistently well seasoned and the cook appropriately. Thank you chefs/cooks.Food: 5/5
I wish I got a photo before we tore it up but this was the best delivered meal I’ve ever had. I got the 1/4 chicken with rice, squash and cornbread and every single thing tasted like a home cooked delicious meal. The corn bread is sweet and delicious. The chicken was moist and flavourful with a big serving. I cannot believe this gems been in my neighbourhood and I only just tried it. A great lunch spot with varying side dishes throughout the week. Our second time we tried the eggplant stew, collard greens and cous cous. All still delicious. The roasted squash has been my favourite side so far.
My husband and I get Lula Bird every Friday night--it's perfect for a family and they use really high quality chicken. The collard greens are our favorite side but all the sides all great. Save room for the bread pudding!
