Again, what can I say? I attended LTHS from 1965-1969. It 's a brilliant concept to have the Freshmen and Sophomore classes separated from the Junior and Senior classes. The newbies who are just out of middle school have time to get adjusted to high school life without getting in the way of the upper classmen who are focused on preparing for college.....or at least that's how it was hahaha.... A terrific high school. Now that I have lived in a number of other states (Colorado, Arizona, California) I can give a more realistic evaluation of the quality of education that I received at LTHS. I also have two daughters who are grown up and went to high schools in Arizona which has given me another comparison to use. Well, here it is: I was super fortunate to have experienced a rigorous public school education. This high school is more like a college when it comes to expectations and preparation for life. In fact, both colleges that I attended after high school were amazingly easier than LTHS. I used to do 3-4 hours of homework every night in high school to keep a 3.75 grade average. LTHS didn't feel sorry if you couldn't keep up, either, unlike today where so many schools have lowered their levels of expectations. My daughters' high school in a small town in central Arizona was approximately 2-3 years behind what I learned at LTHS. As I mentioned concerning the North Campus, LTHS was the second largest high school in Illinois at the time, just slightly less than New Trier, the largest. Incredibly, in addition to German, French, and Spanish a student could elect to take 4 years of Latin or Russian. Most colleges don't even offer this let alone a high school. I feel a bit sad talking to work mates who cannot spell simple English words even after they have graduated from other high schools and are close to my age. A high school like LTHS makes all the difference in the world for giving a student a strong educational foundation, but then perhaps it was more the time and place and about the structure and respect for teachers and school general than it was just the school. Who knows......

One of the best schools in the Chicago suburbs. Radio station WLTL highest in the nation. Newspaper rated 3rd best school paper in the nation.
