Story

Welcome to Mac's Acadian Seafood Shack.

Situated in Murphy's Crossing, a restored historical Saline landmark, Mac's opened its doors in August 1996 and has been a recognizable fixture ever since. The menu has been inspired by the Nova Scotia heritage, combining spicy Cajun cuisine with a little New England charm. Hence, the East Coast fresh fish and seafood with a Cajun flare. The coastal favorites include a wide selection of fresh fish delivered daily, oysters from numerous areas in the Northeast, and traditional fish-n-chips.

So, just how does the Eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia inspire a "Cajun" spirit more commonly associated with southern Louisiana? Well, the over 500,000 "Cajuns" descended to the bayous of Louisiana from a region called "Acadia".

Where is "Acadia?" The original colony of Acadia was established in 1605 by French settlers and centered in Eastern Province of Canada; present day Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. This French colony was ceded to the British and in 1755 many of the French colonists were exiled. Some returned to their homeland, but many migrated south to the bayous of Louisiana, where their descendants, commonly known as 'Cajuns' speak an archaic form of French and still preserve the distinct culture of their ancestors.

So, 'spice it up' and try some of Mac’s Acadian original creations; Freshly made gumbo, spicy Cajun shrimp, and hearty jambalaya just to name a few; oysters on the half shell, fresh clam strips, steamed mussels and lump crab cakes. Finish up with a slice of homemade key lime pie or one of our chocolate specials.

Mac's has a little something for everyone's taste, offering sandwiches, salads and burgers for lunch or Dinner and the best Happy Hour in Washtenaw county from 3 - 6:30 pm daily!

Ate here a couple times, never been impressed. On each occasion someone in my group has had to send food back due to wrong item or didn't taste good. Prices are high and the service leaves a lot to be desired. They do have a decent happy hour though.

The food is very good. A warning that they get extremely busy on Friday and Saturday night so food can be slow! A bit pricey, but there is a reason that they have been in business for so many years! Birthday dinner is free as BOGO..... Must be on your birthday with ID. Get on their email list, they run incredible specials!

For a restaurant that we visit with some regularity, this was a particularly disappointing visit. From the beginning, drink orders were slow and mixed up. Then, 3 of us were interested in the soft shell crabs. Initially we were told there were only 2 servings left, then the waitress returned to tell us there was only 1 order AND then as the other 3 meals were finally being served, we were told that there were in fact no orders left. Overall service was slow and some of the meals were only warm. The manager did recognize the multiple mess ups, gave us discounts on our wine and a free meal and a gift certificate (which we are unlikely to use. Oh, and after waiting more than necessary for our wine, were advised they were out of it. This is a n important community restaurant and hopefully this was just a hiccup, but it will be a while before we return, if ever.

The seafood is well prepared. Food is delicious, but the reason I don't give it five stars is the fact that it straddles a line between serving acadian style cuisine and just great seafood entrees. They keep the menu fresh enough that I feel they are worth repeated visits. They use Michigan products where possible and it adds to the class. They are worth the price and are a local gem. It also appeals to our kids, though a kids meal was little more expensive then the value in my eyes.
