Kind of confusing on the map since it says MacArthur park is the playground on the right side of the road, but the large park next to the baseball field also has a MacArthur park sign. Regardless … Park next to the baseball field and then you’ll see the MacArthur Park sign and Bathrooms available. Cute grassy area with some hills, No picnic tables but a few shady trees to sit under if you wanted to picnic. Looks like they just added another fenced in area for off leash dogs - very large and pretty well kept! They have some doggy bags and trash cans too.
I like this park a lot. This review is not for the child's playground at the community center, but for the park across the street. There is ample parking either at the baseball field for the south entrance, or at the north near the pool. At the north entrance is the community pool, community garden and basketball courts. Parking is uncovered. There are shady areas and one sitting area next to the pool entrance. At the south entrance there is the restroom building, a small fenced dog area, uncovered seating and tables and the path leading to the grass/park area. Much of the park is uncovered and unshaded. There are scattered trees and small shaded areas to find a space to walk your dog or picnic. At the north end of the park the noise level can get loud, as the north end is right next to the 8 freeway which is visible from the north hill. Much of the park on this side is also lined by homes/backyards. Lots of open space, fresh air and rolling hills. Wear shoes that can go uphill/downhill if possible. Some of the north paths are very steep for flipflops or slides. Leash your dogs please! Many dog owners are not mindful of the park rules, or don't have commands available to call their loose dog back to them. A little irritating at times: Im a dog person, but wouldn't let my dog bother others enjoying the park that may not be. Overall it's a beautiful park, and not too busy on weekends unless there's a baseball game. Playground: Macarthur park is a small child's playground across the street from the main park. My review is about the main park. Restrooms: Restrooms at the far south end of the park near the baseball field. There may be restrooms at the north end near the community garden but the building is usually locked. Dog-friendliness: There are lots of dogs here, many bring their dogs unleashed which is against the park rules. If you have an anxious dog, this may be a park to avoid until your dog gets more sociable. They recently built in a very small fenced section near the south end for small dogs but it's very small. Picnic area: There are tables and seating near the south end of the park near the restrooms and dog fenced yard, but the majority of the park is wide and open where you can bring your own blanket or travel chairs to find a spot to picnic. This park does not have any grills or picnic equipment like other parks do.
Excellent park for dogs, and just a beautiful park to relax outdoors. I bring my dog almost every day, and the people who go are friendly and mostly have friendly, well-behaved dogs.
Love this park! This park is bigger than I thought. The kid playground is small but enough. Great for smaller kids.
Surrounded by trees, hilly, grassy, and quiet. This serene park is a wonderful respite for playing with your dog, meeting friends and family, reading, practicing, or whatever. It has an enclosed fenced area for dogs as well.
What a hidden gem! La Mesa has some beautiful finds! This place was completely unexpected! Next to the pool, garden, and just a vast, beautiful space! I can't wait to picnic here!
Nice little playground and grassy area for a lot of playing. No shade could get very hot in the middle of the day.
I really enjoy the park and has a nice little Trail I take my little chihuahua with me and enjoy the sunshine the fresh air and the grass
Super clean park nestled in an assuming part of la mesa in my opinion. I always saw the baseball fields from the road but after going to the actual park for the earth day event this year was so fun! Also the community pool is in the back of the park here so I highly recommend!
Pretty park. Lots of space. I road my bike, but seems good for dogs if your dogs are good off leash its sorta fenced in. Beautiful trees
