Story

Mackinaw High School is the alternative high school for the Saginaw Township Community School District.

Our program is designed to be completed in 2 school years. No electives are required. Mackinaw accepts both in-district and out-of-district students between the ages of 15-19. Mackinaw does not enroll first year freshman.

If you are an out-of-district student you are eligible for transportion through the use of the STARS bus which drops students off and picks them up directly in front of the school. We pay for your bus passes as long as you attend all assigned classes.

If you are a Saginaw Township resident you are eligible to ride the Township school bus.

If you are interested in enrolling the first step is to visit Mackinaw's website and click on "registration procedure" tab. This will list the information we need to start the process.

The classes are Mackinaw are a mixture of self-paced and structured classes for students.
If you are behind on credits, need a smaller school setting or are looking for a fresh start we can help.

Students who complete all Mackinaw requirements earn a high school diploma.

What I liked best about this school was the fact that you didn't have to sit through lectures or a teacher talk. It was all on you and were in charge of what you could do and how much you can finish each day without being held back. Enjoyed my year here.

I've been at Mackinaw for two years and I'm already a graduate. The program is great amd extremely helpful for those who need to work at their own pace. All of the staff is incredibly nice and will do anything they can to help you get on the right track as long as you're willing to be helped. Best school I've ever been to.

Staff are very caring and genuinely want to help the students. I came here a Junior, behind in credits, and graduated in a year. The work at your own pace environment and possibility of testing out of classes creates a place where you can graduate very quickly if you work hard.

I had a great experience in the year that I went to mackinaw high. The teachers are very caring and the student body is small enough that I would daily get to talk to an adviser and the principal. My favorite thing about this school that I never had at other schools is how safe I felt. it is tedious going through a security screening everyday before school but i knew that I didn't have to worry.  The teachers actually care about you finishing. at any other school if you fall behind you are left there but at mackinaw the kids who fell behind got the extra help they needed and that is how the education system should be. We have gotten into a time seeing the kids as percentages on state mandated tests. When I came to mackinaw it was the first time I felt as if I mattered as a person and not a score.

Get your work done & you get a DIPLOMA. NO GED. DIPLOMA! Staff are more caring than most Saginaw Township area teachers. The curricular outline is simply a set amount of work & lessons that once finished, you graduate. There was nothing "hard" about the work, just an awful lot of it. This school taught me some scholarly work ethic. I will always thank teachers like Mrs. Kim, Mr. Dan, Mr. Couitcher, & the entire teaching staff of 2010-12! Oh, & also, its because of the course "Career Planning" that I am who I am today! DO NOT remove this course from the curriculum, it has taught me many things that have become extremely important to this day!!
