My mother was a dynamic, outspoken woman. It was difficult for her to agree to leave her apartment and friends and move to Magnolia Retirement Community. She was unable to walk so living alone was not an option. We agreed that this was the best place for her to be. She had already been in the rehab wing and liked the people there. But this being long term was different and frightening to me. But Magnolia allows the patient to bring personal items and pictures, so the person feels its their home. Just before the move, my mother got an infection and lost some of her awareness. When she actually made the move from the hospital to Magnolia, she said she never agreed to be admitted there to long term care. I was devastated but he staff was very understanding, knowledgeable and caring. They tried to get us both through this tough time. They were patient with her and helped me as well. I live out of state and when I had to leave her there, I felt ALL the staff kept in contact with me. Their kindness and helpfulness was a great relief. I did return as my mother worsened. She too soon passed away there at Magnolia. Although the Hospice in charge of her case totally failed my mother and myself. The nurses, aids and staff at Magnolia were stellar at making my mother as comfortable as possible until the end. I would recommend Magnolia to anyone for therapy as well as long term care.

Many years ago my Grandmother stayed there and it was a pretty good experience. There have been many change, mostly improvements.

Let's face it, there is no such thing as a perfect nursing home. However, the nursing staff at Magnolia has a low turn over rate and they are a very caring group of individuals. My husband was there for a month and was quite ill. They worked very hard to provide him with good care. He is so appreciative to this day. We have since been in another facility for rehab due to location and there was no comparison. It just made us appreciate the care we received at Magnolia. Thank you.

On a Friday I went to visit my Dad and it seemed he was getting okay care but on Saturday he had been left in his bed all day, and only seen by a caregiver for pills and food. He cannot move himself. When we complained to the nurse she claimed that she was not allowed to move him without permission from rehab. I asked if she had read his record to find out if she had permission and she had not. The staff was fairly defensive, giving me the impression that this was not an isolated incidence.

No nursing home is perfect, and my grandmother seems to have been treated ok. Most of the nursing staff is friendly and careing toward her no mater how nasty she gets. However, on two occasions either staff or addministration has gotten nasty with me and/or threatened me. I have also found her sitting in her own waste a couple times and she has had a couple falls. It seems like they don't react quickly enough when she is sick and they wait to treat her until it is so serious she has to be hospitalized.
