This is an excellent venue for opera. We have seen several Berkshire Opera productions here all of which have been terrific. The latest was Faust in Aug 2024. On our last visit we sat in the first row of the mezzanine. The acoustics were excellent as were the sight lines.

I havent been to the Mahaiwe since I was a kid, so I was looking forward to seeing a band from my teenage years there. The website was very clear about masking and vaccine protocol, but since we got the tickets months ago we were hoping the mask mandate would be lifted as it has been at other venues. One member in our party has breathing issues and it is difficult for them to wear a mask for prolonged, but there are no exceptions. They patrol the theater throughout the show to reprimand people. No water is allowed another issue for those with medical problems. The acoustics weren't great, and it was very hot. Definitely one of my least favorite venues around. On a positive note the band was good, and the vaccine card check/ticket check moved along great and the staff was efficient and friendly in that section. The ushers and "mask patrol" folks were not.

Beautiful theater in the heart of Great Barrington. Built in 1905, the theater sits 750 people.
The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington is the perfect spot to see a live performance. The old/restored theater is beautiful, and the small-ish size makes any seat in the house a good one. The staff were all incredibly friendly, helpful and readily available to help you find your seat. I didn't see any type of concession stand or area, so plan ahead and eat before going in. There's no on-site parking, but parking spots in Great Barrington are usually easy to find. Ticket prices vary by artist/performance, but the concert that I went to had plenty of options including "cheap seats" at $30.
It's one thing to visit a stunning, immaculate, special theater. It is another to be met with such gracious and accommodating staff. Jeff, Mahaiwe's Box Office Manager, was incredibly helpful and kind, which makes the experience 10x better. Thank you Mahaiwe, hope to see you soon!
Nice venue, friendly staff. The mask requirement was communicated to us when we bought out tickets, and they supplied masks on site for those who didn't have any. However, we were unaware that food and beverages are prohibited. Even the water fountains are taped off. Considering most attendees are on site for 2-3 hours, access to water should be a given. Personally, I won't come back to this theatre until basic hospitality needs are met.
Hello! The venue was a nice place, the band deer tick was amazing!, but the situation at the venue ruined the full experience. We were not told that no water, food or alcohol were accepted. AND we had to wear masks the whole time with out having a drink of water.... We drove 2h to go see deer tick and as good as they were the venue restricted our full enjoyment of the experience. Love the venue but that was a bit to much....,.
