Story

Maine Standard Biofuels collects waste cooking oil from New England to manufacture premium biodiesel for vehicle and heating use as well as cleaning products. Based in Portland since 2006, we strongly value the environmental and social benefits of having our business focused on ecologically sound localism and sustainability.

I've Been heating my home with Biofuel and fueling my cars with Maine Standard Biofuels product for several years now without a problem. If you maintain your car regularly and change the fuel filter your pumps should not have an issue. We have diesel cars that have been running on biodiesel for many years that have gone over the 300, 000 mark and and are still running! Same with your furnace for your home, if you maintain it than the biofuel blend that MSB uses will be fine, if not better than conventional oil. It's local and renewable. Why wouldn't you?

As a diesel engine mechanic I would caution anyone not to use bio-fuel (grater then 5% blend) in their engine. The average service life of a "Bosch VE" injection pump is well in excess of 250,000 miles. The use of bio-fuel with more than a 5% BLEND will ruin this pump in less than half of the design life of the pump. As a home heating fuel I'm sure that this product will perform well. But the cost of replacing an automotive injection pump far exceeds any useful benefit.

As someone who heats an apartment, and as someone trying to reduce my carbon footprint, I have been exceptionally impressed with both Maine Standard Biofuels, their products, and expertise. Using their biodiesel for heating has not only given me some self-satisfaction, but also has granted me some peace of mind. Their staff are extremely knowledgeable and addressed my concerns about heating with their fuel in my make of furnace. And I am certainly glad to not support the natural gas and petroleum industries. If you have any doubts or questions about biodiesel, for diesel vehicles or home heating, you should really give them a call.
