If I could do no stars I would. They say they send letters, some make it, some don't. I was told months ago when my debit card expired that they didn't receive the updated card info I sent in via mail per their direction that's comforting. Then I get this letter with fees and violations linked to my plate. I play phone tag for WEEKS, finally a woman tells me I am all set and I have been put back in good status, and when my EZ Pass balance gets low, it will replenish automatically. Well what do we know - not true. Now I am receiving a random letter saying I owe them $118 and $70 of that is FEES. SOME ADMINISTRATIVE! Administrative?! I can't reach anyone?! And now I await more letters and violations that will be linked to ME and my husband because no one calls you back. And if you have a job, hope you have 3 hours to sit on hold or answer when and IF they call you back. Because if you don't, I will assure you the clock restarts. Such a shame and so extremely frustrating. I guess we need a way to get in touch with Peter Mills? This is my first bad review I have EVER left, anywhere. I have been patient but this is absurd.
Went directly to the main office to pay outstanding charges associated with my plate that I never received a single invoice for... somehow I am still in violation and now cannot pay a new toll online which I only need to pay because there were for some reason no toll booths open in the middle of a weekday??. Can't call the office to clear it up as they are closed- again, middle of the day on a weekday- and even if I were able to reach a representative, they can't process payments over the phone in this, the 21st century. MTA: if I cannot get a definitive answer on how much I owe and get it paid in person, and you won't take payment over or even answer the phone or provide an online portal for travellers, how do you expect me to get this taken care of? Do better. *Update: just received a bill for $71- $1 toll, $70 in fees- that I can't pay online, over the phone, or by personal check. Amazing.
EZ Pass has quite a cash monster going. I received a notice of suspension, called and was on hold for so long I gave up, tried again the next day and the same happened. 20+ minutes on hold for a 3rd time and I had to be transferred and put back on hold for an additional 8 minutes before reaching someone who told me that a representative would call me back. At this point my registration is already suspended. I received the notice with only 3 days to pay before suspension. The woman told me that I had $6 in tolls, $78 in fees, $33 in additional charges and a $50 reinstatement fee and they won’t take a card over the phone from me because the funds have to be secured. This means I have to go to a bank, get a check and send it to them but OH YEAH, my registration is suspended. I’m up for $167 for $6 in tolls and they’re making it impossible for me to pay any of it. The State of Maine is taking the wrong approach for additional funds over and above what is budgeted.
The way this office and toll system is run is meant to screw the little guy. It’s a sales pitch for people to get ez pass and some people just don’t have the means for ez pass. They will suspend your registration for a dollar toll without much notice. Then make it impossible to pay the toll online. This system is trash and should be illegal
My NH transponder wasn't working in Maine works fine in other states and for some unknown reason, because I'm out of state they won't let me pay online and when I call to make a payment i get put on hold until next August......
Poor, indifferent customer service and the cash lanes are no longer being staffed properly due to mismanagement. Furthermore, the agency is still corrupt as documented in the past. Elected officials please take notice and reform this agency.
At this rate the state of Maine should have highways paved in gold. They definitely make an exorbitant amount of money off their own people. Recently I found myself in unfamiliar territory and I did not realize there would be a toll to pay. I panicked since I don't carry cash and it was an off amount. After scrambling for change, I couldn't get any. I went through EZ Pass since I had no idea what else to do. After I went through I noticed a sign which said, "Need to pay a toll? Call........ Within a couple days I had a letter in the mail for a fee of $72.00 for a lousy $1.75 toll. Nothing is easy. You can't pay online, you have to send a bank check or certified check or go in person. Why must it be SO difficult?! To own an easy pass you must have a $20 balance at ALL times. Huh? It's absolutely ridiculous that Mainers pay tons of taxes anyway and on top of that the Maine Turnpike Authority uses any reason to send fines and threaten hard working residents' their driving privileges.

If I could give no stars I would. Got a bill in the mail for 77 dollars for a 4 dollar bill. I also paid it before it was due. Now it’s a violation but they won’t except payment over the phone or online. Don’t understand how they can charge an extra 71 dollars for 4 dollars that was already paid.
Helpful people, particularly Beverly was pleasant to work with, but they definitely need some help answering phones - LONG wait times and twice no call backs.
