Food is always good for us here. Duck rolls are pricey, but good. All the food has great taste. Good beer selection always.

Well after all the hype, I gave it a try. I gotta say the atmosphere is definitely urban and it feels like I'm back at home in Portland. I ordered the tap house burger and my wife tried the Cesar salad, Two ways... Chard lettuce fresh off the grill with a portion of your classic Caesar. Only problem is that they don't put dressing on it! It literally is half a romaine lettuce bulb off the grill. No dressing. When we asked for dressing we got some, but it was pretty flat and boring. Overall not a great salad for $11 bucks. We ordered out tap house burger rare per the waitresses recommendation. That was a mistake as well. Rare here means cold inside. Definitely juicy though. Juicy cold blood burger. So unless you hankering for a chard romaine bulb, and juicy cold ground beef. Maybe try something else.

New menu=WHYYYY? I am a proponent of change but not if it ain’t broke! We loved your curry wraps and now they are no longer. Sadly overpriced as well. We miss the old Manito Taphouse. *Holding protest sign: Bring Back Curry Wraps”

This place used to be so great! I still remember the first time I came here, being blown away by the huge wall of taps and the fantastic menu that had something for everybody. The servers were knowledgeable, well-informed, and friendly, and seemed like they actually enjoyed their jobs. Above all else, however: the bacon jalapeno cheddar soup. Even though I had my regular 2 or 3 meals, the soup was an absolute must every visit. I used to love coming here after work, when I would order a couple beers at the bar and take dinner home for my wife and me. Almost always with an extra bowl of soup. You may notice that paragraph is past-tense. The first reason is because the service has gradually been going downhill, as lately the staff seem to act like they’re working in fast food. Instead of the warm, inviting atmosphere, it’s more of an “order your food and get the hell out” vibe. At the bar, it was starting to seem like the only customers that mattered were the super-regulars that the bartenders knew on a first name basis. Good luck getting a second beer… On top of this, the last time I ordered food to go it was not up to the usual standard of quality and as a result we decided to take a break from the tap house, chalking up the substandard meal to new kitchen staff. A week or so ago, after taking probably 6 months off, we decided to head back to see if things had improved, and this is where a simple review turns into a horrific nightmare. The waitress was nice, but the menu she handed us might as well have belonged to a different restaurant. Everything save a couple boring entrees was gone. Nothing we had ever ordered was anywhere to be found. I begrudgingly ordered the burger, because I wasn’t in the mood for any of the new entrees that each cater to a specific genre of culinary taste. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the new selections are expertly prepared and a testament to the skills of the chef, but when you’re set on something there’s no going back. My burger was…ok. The bun was dry and I’m fairly certain store bought, however I’m willing to acknowledge my expertise in baked goods is somewhat lacking. The cambozola was the obvious highlight of the burger which is great because I love cheese, however it really drowned out every other flavor. Now hold on to your seats because I haven’t even told you the most horrific part. The delectable, creamy, full of flavor bacon jalapeno cheddar soup with just the right amount of kick has also been retired. As in even if you ask for it because you’re “in the know,” it ain’t happening, and that is my deal breaker. I can get past intermittently poor service and the occasional meal that doesn’t live up to its expectations but once you take away my flagship side order our relationship has come to an end, and all because “after five years of doing the same thing the owners figured it was time for a change” (per our most recent waitress.) It breaks my heart to say this, but Manito Tap House, we must now part ways. The spark is no longer there and I feel so betrayed by what you have done. Sure, you still have an impressive wall of taps, but there’s plenty of other places in town that offer a great beer selection and mouthwatering entrees. Also, surely by now you have figured out that quantity does not always correspond with quality. I honestly wish you well and hope that your new menu brings you new loyal customers. Unfortunately, I will no longer be among them. Edit: I added a third star because I felt bad for leaving only two after all the excellent meals I've had here. But you're lucky to get three after taking away my soup...and don't tell me it will come back as a special because I can't plan my life around the soup of the day.
