We went to Mantra with office colleagues for dinner around 5:30 pm. The hotel was nearly empty, with only one person handling seating and serving. The food, including pakoda, paneer chilly, bhendi kurkure, Paneer Tikka masala, and Veg Kolhapuri, was delicious. However, the service was slow and unsatisfactory. The drinks menu had many options, but besides Lassi and soda, there was nothing available. It would be helpful if the server clearly mentioned the limited choices. Instead, we had to specify that we wanted Indian soda or tea, and he informed us that they didn't have those. The service was slow, and the server seemed uninterested, making faces while taking orders. When we asked for a glass with our cold drink, he showed a poker face. The atmosphere was further dampened by the sad South Indian songs he played. A large group left after 10 minutes due to the same service issues. The management should address this concern as it could be impacting the business. While the food tasted good, service is also crucial. Additionally, there was no free Wi-Fi and only street side parking.
It is a nice spot for Indian food in prime location. The exchange place boardwalk is just 2 blocks away. The ambience is very warm and welcoming and their servers are quite hospitable and friendly. The food was quite nice in terms of quality and taste although they could do better with the portion size of their entrees. Would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for good Indian food in the area.
Visited again after about 3 years and the food was still good. Rice is provided complimentary with curry. We had naan, tomato basil soup, paneer tikka and more. It's an ok place to have Indian food. I had dinner twice and food was not bad.. Definetly not too spicy. I was here recently for dinner and sat in their underground/basement section as their was a private event going on in the top. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian Indian dishes on the menu.
Solid and authentic. This place has an amazing lunch buffet that for the price is just perfect. The food is true to it's roots from India. You can taste every spice in each dish. I would also have to say they have hands down the best Naan bread in JC. The selection changes slightly ever so often but the core dishes are the same and it's amazing. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly but they understand stay out of the way unless a patron needs something. There is a nice vibe will good music but I must say the music has to be a new touch. I am probably going to be in there twice a month if they keep up the selection and service.
Most of the Indian restaurants that I previously visited had good, bad and the ugly experiences with the food/ Staff/Ambiance. But on the other side Mantra Indian Restaurant located in Jersey city is really something that I am going to cherish for a long time. Me as Full time Non vegetarian and my wife being Vegetarian always been difficult to order food in any restaurant. But in Mantra both Veg/ Non Veg appetizers are amazing, especially "Tandoori Paneer" is as good as "Chicken Lollipop" and thats coming from pure meat lover. Main course is out of this world. Last but not least. Their Desserts are must try. If you are passing by Jersey/ New york. Do try their food. It all worth it. Vegetarian options: Its definitely upvote for all the Vegetarian options. Dont be shy to explain about spice level
Great food, horrible service .. 2 people would be constantly talking about what's not available and go and tell the customer an item is not there by 20 mins. There is a guy who keeps chiding employees In front of everyone. Ordered a chicken dish, kadhi pakoda tasted like made of cashew gravy and dal along with garlic and chilli naan. The food is savory and tastyz don't get me wrong on that's but the service is dismal.
Indian food is not usually my thing but this place definitely changed that for me. I was blown away by the food, some spicy and some savory. I'll be honest that I don't remember the names of the dishes, but there was almost nothing that I ate that I disliked. My favorite was the fried yogurt I think called dahi de kebab as an appetizer and the garlic chicken lassuni for the meal. The lentils were amazing, too. There is almost no way to go wrong here. I disliked the cottage cheese meal, but I'm not really a fan of cottage cheese to start with.
Mantra is a fine Indian Restaurant that attempts to offer flavorful Indian food with great service and rich ambience. It more or less succeeds with occasional blips here and there. Food in general is really good but some dishes are disappointing. This place is popular for lunch buffet that offers unlimited food for under 15 dollars. It's a great value for money in the area where dinning tends to be not so cheap. There is a bar which offers extensive range of liquor and cocktails. Also, they have a small party hall where private parties can be hosted with an awesome pre-fixe menu for only 25 dollars per person. Overall this is a great restaurant to visit if you are in Jersey City!
A wonderful little place with good Indian Cuisine, though I can only speak for the buffet. Buffet - The buffet options were decent, not intense like a Chinese buffet counterpart, but having less options means it is easier to choose your food. Everything is technically good, nothing out of the ordinary if you know Indian food. The Keema and Chicken Masala were on spot and the other rice dishes were interesting, like Chicken Briyani has a gentle taste to it, not heavy on the salt. The nonstop Naan is also a good point if you enjoy that. My only issue is with the spice level, thought I cannot blame the restaurant because it is a buffet and must balance the dishes so that everyone can eat it. I prefer strong spice and hotter food. It was a bet cooled down for me. I would recommend it for those who want to try it out and eat some Indian cuisine for lunch. I am sure dinner is wonderful, someday I'll have to try it out.
Had a group lunch there. Nah was good. Other than that not that many other choices. Watch out though, the restaurant already charge a 18% 'service fee'! They didn't give you a bill. You go to counter to pay. They just charged it and didn't tell you. When I asked if tip included, the answer was 'no'. Just not a decent behavior. Disappointed. Last visit from me to this place.
