My wife and I recently had dinner at Mariscos 1133 in Washington, DC. The restaurant has a fast-casual vibe, and while the food is generally good, there were some points that stood out. They don't sell bottled water, which was a bit surprising as I'm not a fan of the local tap water. The lobster and crab guacamole, though tasty, had only a small amount of seafood and seemed a bit pricey for what you get. My fish was overcooked and too crispy for my liking, but my wife really enjoyed her Puerto Vallarta salad. The service was decent, and the atmosphere is more relaxed than what we usually prefer. Overall, it was an average dining experience.
In love with this restaurant went the first time for Restaurant week . I felt in love with their ceviche. My husband and I are coming every Friday since for birria tacos , ceviche and margaritas! Everything is amazing from the Birria omelette to the flan. I can recommend enough this amazing place !!
Unfortunately, Mariscos 1133 fell flat for us. First, I had reserved an indoor table because it was going to be very hot that evening, but when we arrived they tried to switch us to a patio table. In fact, the host's screen showed "patio table," but when I double-checked the reservation, I'd indeed booked inside. They did accommodate us inside, but at a very undesirable table next to the bar, where the wait staff come back and forth. It took some 20 minutes to get our drinks, and we had to insist that our server take our food order at that time. I asked how long the food was taking, and she said that it was "taking a while, to be honest, but not too bad." It was bad. We only received our food 1.5 hours after our arrival. The manager came by and apologized for the delays, asking if we needed any drinks. Someone else at my table mentioned having ordered another drink already, but that we were still waiting on it unsurprisingly. We thought maybe the manager was trying to comp drinks or something because of the terrible service, but no. Ultimately, the food and drinks were pretty good, but the service was so slow that we'll never go back. On top of all that, there is a mandatory 20% gratuity and it is fairly difficult to find parking nearby, so I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Enjoyed this place for restaurant week. Food was delish lobster and crab guac pictured, and also had the salmon dish - super fresh, ginormous portion, perfectly cooked. The service was very, very friendly, but as someone who was a server for a decade on and off this is really for the managers:, it seemed like the servers needed more support. Our server was helpful and friendly, and I saw him hustling the heck out of the dining room, but it was so busy that he wasn't able to check in with us until closer to the end of the meal. I don't think that was about his skill as a server as much as potentially being understaffed. It also took us about 20 min to speak to the host to check in for our reservation again, friendly, clearly knew how to do his job, it was b-u-s-y, tho The atmosphere downstairs seemed great - bustling, pleasantly crowded, cute booths, super welcoming. Upstairs wasn't nearly as cozy and I was surprised by the children running around and yelling. Obviously that is not the responsibility of the restaurant, and folks with kids reading this: take note! They are kid friendly! For me, though, that's just not my preference for a Saturday night dinner.
First time here. We ordered the calamari and the Solis duo. The calamari was so good we wanted to order a second round—one of the best approach appetizers I've had in the city. I also had the solis duo. For me, the star of the dish was the enchiladas. I wish it I would have more than 2. All in all, the appetizer and service set the tone for the experience at this restaurant.
Wow, such a find. I was looking for a restaurant close to the Drunk Shakespeare show and found this place on Google maps. It did not disappoint! Delicious blue corn tortillas, outstanding flautas, fish tacos and jibbarito sandwich. And the drinks! My margaritas were clean, smooth and went down really nicely. Hubby had some extra aged anejo that was well worth the price. We’ll come another time for the wonderful seafood. Definitely worth a revisit.
I ordered the fried flounder and my husband ordered the seafood pasta. Both were outstanding. Next time we visit I would order seafood pasta for myself without the black beans that it comes with. Also if you’re deciding on the ceviche for an appetizer, you should get it!Recommended dishesFried Calamari
Pics don't do this place justice. All the food we ordered was amazing. Ceviche Clásico = divine. Queso fundido is great with a group of fiends. Mariscos duo a la diabla was a highlight, only wish there was more! Got seated on a busy night without a reservation, though we were on the earlier side was full by the time we left. Service and recommendations were very good.
Really nice dinner tonight — very nice service and delicious food. We liked the crab and shrimp nachos and the quest fundido. The ceviche Classico was ok but not outstanding. The sugar cane shrimp was pretty good. Lots of outdoor seating. They offer mezcal in all the margaritas. They had bug spray when I asked for it. A little too expensive to be a regular neighborhood place to go when I don’t feel like cooking. About $50 per person and Would have been more expensive if I’d had alcohol along with my partner as I normally would. But definitely a place I’ll return to often.
We had an 8 o'clock reservation. No one greeted us until about 8:15. We waited until 8:30 for our first round of drinks beer and wine, not cocktails. We didn't get our entrees until after 9. We were seated upstairs, where we had never sat before, despite several tables being available in the downstairs dining room. Initially, we were seated in a booth right under a speaker playing music so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation. We asked to move to another booth and we were seated in a windowless part of the room. The room was painted black, so we felt like we were in a hole. Additionally, there was only one server working the upstairs dining room who was also bussing tables. She bussed several tables where the patrons had gotten up and left before coming to greet us, which was frustrating. The dining room was not very busy while we were there. I went to use the restroom toward the end of the meal. They are single use, gender neutral restrooms. One of the restrooms was locked, so I knocked and pushed open the ajar door next to it, where a man was urinating. He had not shut the door all the way, let alone did he bother locking it. He laughed -- I was disgusted. Since the service was so slow upstairs, we finished our last round of drinks at the bar downstairs, where the creep I was exposed to was sitting at a table that had been available when we arrived at the restaurant at 8. He kept turning around and looking at me, which was incredibly disturbing and uncomfortable. I suppose the silver lining here is that he was a patron and not an employee of the restaurant. On top of everything, there was a 20 percent service fee. I generally don't have a problem with this, but including an automatic tip for a terrible experience is unfair and we felt taken advantage of. While we love the food at Mariscos, we won't be going back.
