Story

In 1948, Juel Market and Milt Johnson decided to form their own home construction company. Four years later, Market & Johnson had its first commercial project, the High School in Altoona, WI. By 1956 a full transition had taken place and Market & Johnson had evolved from home builders to commercial construction. In 1964 Milt Johnson sold his portion of the firm to Juel Market; that same year Marv Market joined his brother upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Dan Market, the third brother, followed in 1970. Market & Johnson continued to operate as a family business until early 2000 when Dan Market offered ownership opportunities to four key employees. Upon retirement of those four key employees, a new group of five key employees joined the ownership team. Led by Dan Market and followed by Jerry Shea, Matt Faulkner, Kevin Renley, Mike Seichter, and Jason Plante. All of whom are still actively involved with every aspect of the firm. While ownership has changed one thing remains the same - our small town family atmosphere and experience. The original principles of the company were quite simple...... they were to complete the job in a timely fashion, maintain the highest quality that can be achieved and do the project right the first time. These principles have remained with the company throughout its existence, and continue to be the guiding principles for the firm. Market & Johnson experienced a steady rate of growth throughout the years with annual sales of about $200,000. By 1990, sales grew to $19 million and today are Western Wisconsin's largest contractor. The La Crosse office was added in 1995 and the Oakdale MN office in 2013. Today, Market & Johnson, Inc. is a premier general contractor/construction manager known as one of the highest quality contractors in western Wisconsin. A solid reputation for getting projects done on time and within budget, which goes right back to the original principles on which Market & Johnson was founded.
