Overall the experience I had with this doctor was horrendous. I went to him because I was having some trouble coping with marital problems I was having with my husband which was in turn affecting my sleep. The office was generic by any standard. Usually, when you walk into a psychiatrist office you expect to feel comfortable with the doctor you are sharing intimate details with. This was not the case with me. From the get go, I knew I should have walked out. Its just that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you know something is not right. Dr.Marquis is an older man, maybe late 60's- early 70's, I would venture. The first red flag I encountered was his over-excitement upon meeting me. The only way I can describe it is he was very "handsy". In my experience with therapists, they usually sit across from you when delving into your problems. He was more interested in sitting right next to me, with his arm around my shoulder. Many times during our session resting his hand right on my breast or the inside of my thigh. I pushed it away a few times and even moved away from him. The whole time I felt he was undressing me with his eyes. He kept making suggestive comments to me such as, "you can tell me absolutely anything, is there anything private you need to share? Anything you tell me or show me is privleged, you wouldn't be the first patient to get comfortable in this office.." At that point I ended the session and left. It was horrifying.

About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which is milder version of Bipolar disorder. I was treated by Dr. Sinibalde out of Palos Hospital after battling the disease for years. A few years prior, I was seeing Dr. Marquis. He never properly diagnosed me and made my condition worst. He had me on a highly addictive depression medication that caused my symptoms to be a lot more extreme. My life spun out of control on this medication and I would get "brain zaps" I forgot a dose. It took me a year of misery to withdrawal from it. When I was taking the meds, he wouldn't fill my medication when my refills were up unless I saw him. So I would go through withdrawal until there was an opening to see him, which would sometimes be up to a month waiting. I was a young girl and very confused. I wasn't sure what was wrong with me and I was having major problems. Instead of asking appropriate questions, he lent me a book on personality disorders and asked me to diagnose myself. He fell asleep on me several times, during our expensive appointments. In my confused and desperate state, on a whim I said I thought I had ADHD, so he immediately wrote me a script for Adderall. Again, with my bipolar disorder, the meds had adverse effects-causing an extreme manic episode. I complained that I was always tired and he offered to write me a script for some sort of meds that he said pilots used at night. I basically felt more unstable seeing him. He misdiagnosed me, he fell asleep on me, he'd withhold addictive meds, he'd have me self-diagnose, and he'd write any script I requested. Not a responsible doctor. My new doctor is very professional. He diagnosed me accurately during the first meeting. I have been on the appropriate drugs and have recovered into a functional adult. He is very thorough. Unlike Dr. Marquis who was willing to write a script based off a patients self-diagnosis, my new Dr. will order blood tests and monitor me very closely. Don't trust Dr. Marquis, especially with a young child or young adult. He will push pills on them and rake in the money that you give him each visit, just to keep you coming.

The negative reviews are ridiculous and catergorically untrue.

I had a scheduled appointment and when I arrived he had written it down for the day before. He turned me away and caused a big problem for me. I was not pleased with this doctors scheduling routine, it needs to be modernized, he does it by hand and doesn't own up to his mistakes. He just assumed I made the scheduling error.
