I really hate to be one of those people but I really dislike this Emergency Room. I've been going here since I was very young and it was always a bad experience. The surrounding facilities seem to be nice and I'm only referring to the ER. Last time I went I was waiting for over 12 hours and keep in mind this was a potential cardiac situation where I had a head injury. My blood work was lost twice. At that point they had blown out a few veins and blamed me for not drinking water when I was specifically told not to drink anything and at that point I was there for 10 hours so YES of course I'm dehydrated. By the time I was actually admitted 12 hours later they claimed too much time had passed to really test for anything I was released. I could go on from past experiences as well but I won't. I'll take the time to drive to Stafford or Spotsy to avoid this ER.

The only reason this hospital even gets one star is due to the cardiologist and the nurses in ICU. The doctors on staff might as well printed their own medical degree themselves. No consistent care from one day to the next and the easiest thing to due is to over medicate the patient. Then just tell you they have no idea what's wrong and your loved one may never improved. Moving my grandmother out of MWH after being their for almost a month to UVA was the best possible thing I could have done. It's amazing the complete turnaround after a day and a half with doctors that know what they are doing. The problem now is getting MWH to own up and take responsibility for losing an elderly woman's hearing aid who cannot do without while in hear care. After calling the nurse on duty to ask about the loss I never received a return phone. I then called patient services to get the matter addressed and was told I would receive a call back. After a week no call. I only received a call after patient services was contacted by another MWH employee. Even then they seemed to have a don't care attitude. so another week has passed and still no response from the hospital. This makes it very difficult for an elderly woman to respond to doctors and therapy if she cannot hear them.

Worst hospital ER I have ever been to. I have a broken toe and have been waiting to be seen and the waiting room is EMPTY. Asked for a blanket been 45 minutes and still haven't gotten one. If it weren't an emergency I would never come here again!! Staff is young and more worried about socializing then taking care of patients. TERRIBLE!#!!!!!!!

I'm actually a patient that's been in this hospital for two days now. I've defended this hospital to naysayers over the years and been admitted several times and have always had a pleasant experience with the nursing staff and doctors and everyone right down to the janitorial staff. I couldn't say enough good things about it. I've been admitted this time for an issue that's causing me extreme abdominal pain. It's pretty nasty stuff. Apparently, due to the opioid crisis going on in the good old USA the pain medications given to legitimate patients in need are getting pretty watered down. I hope this gets worked out. BTW: They have the best nursing staff here of anywhere I've been. Angels.

Three stays in a six week period, each lasting at least 10 days, and each for the exact same issue. The floor doctors as well as the specialists contracted to them care more about simply getting patients discharged, regardless of whether they are well enough to actually be safely discharged. Finally was transferred to a REAL hospital at UVA where they fixed in 6 days what MWH had been toying around with over the 6 weeks I was with them. Avoid at all costs. Also, while I was present in my second stint, I saw from the hallway window while doing laps on the floor I was placed in, a life-flight helicopter come in to land on top of the Emergency Room Parking Garage. They then had to wait a few minutes for staff from the hospital to meet them, albeit without a stretcher, so the staff had to go back and get a stretcher. By the time they returned with the stretcher, the crew and patient had been waiting there for 12 minutes. Oh, and on the third stint, they managed to give me c-diff because the staff don't actually wash their hands when they go from room to room, opting instead to just use the hand sanitizer which is useless for c-diff spores. And I had a HIPAA violation with being given access to the patient information of another patient in the hospital, because no one bothered to take the patient label sticker off of a popsicle before bringing it to me. So I had the patient's name, DOB, and MRN right away. Now had I been an unscrupulous character, I could have then scanned the bar code when the nurse left my room while leaving the computer tray in my room unsecured (which frequently happened), to get all that patient's information. Instead, I did the right thing and destroyed the label before throwing the remnants in the trash.
