Mission

At the Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship we are dedicated to helping people become competent sailors of cruising yachts with the skills to cruise in remote areas away from the immediate support and distractions of modern society. We offer a full range of courses from beginning to ocean passage-making. To date we have completed over 200 ocean training cruises and are known world-wide for our advanced program. However, like all pursuits, being the best at what you do means being really good at the basics. At the Maryland School, our basic level program is as strong as our ocean program, and we take it just as seriously. You won't find a "fast track" here. Our 101 and 103 level courses are a full four days in length, our 104 training cruise is 5 days in length and our 106 level cruises are a full 8 days and cover 350-450 NM. All of our classes are taught aboard rugged cruising yachts by highly skilled USCG Licensed captains.

The result? Our students can back up their credentials with excellent on-board skills and are well prepared to move on to advanced cruising.

I purchased ASA 101 tuition for a friend for his birthday. He decided to use take the course with his wife for their 20th Anniversary. Just before the course started their daughter was informed she had received high academic & athletic honors at her high school and had to cancel. The sailing schools policy is not to refund cancellations, and they did not attempt to offer any other solution alternative dates with penalty etc. to try and help the student. They did respond to emails, but are unwilling to offer alternatives. Buyer Beware if you have to change your plans, were out $2000!
Best Celestial Nav course anywhere. Tom Tursi really makes it understandable in a very patient way online. I highly recommed this course over others. Most other courses use the book written by Tom Tursi, so take the class from the author!
My wife and I took the 2-day ASA 118 Docking Endorsement course. The instruction and hands-on practice was invaluable. We could not have received the same level of experience through a 1-day version of this course. The instructor, Capt. Frank M., was fantastic, ensuring each student performed each maneuver multiple times. Our boat, Scholarship, was in great condition, and we enjoyed staying aboard for the weekend. The staff did a great job of giving us all the information we needed to adequately prepare for the weekend to get the most out of it.
Took the docking class, the instructors are school are the best I've seen and been to
